Bonny Lysyk, the Ontario Auditor General, just released a report (her last, she's on the way out) about the green belt deal, she suggests the deal undone. Everything you THINK Dougie and his cronies did... they DID.

At his press conference he just did it so people could buy homes under 1 mill. Approx 0 of the homes built on the greenbelt will be under a million.

This isn’t being done to benefit the people of Ontario. People are making money hand over fist. He got caught, he played dumb, and there will be no consequences except bucketloads of money that will be made by those in the circle.

They are setting up the housing ministers chief of staff to take the fall. Douggie has asked the integrity commissioner to look into him. If you believe the BS, that one civil servant recommended 14 out of the 15 sites and those recommendations were rubber stamped by politicians with no knowledge of how they were selected nor who owned them.
We already know who they are. No surprises.
Now, this isn't as clear cut as media is laying out. Yes, some developers closed deals just before the announcement. The important point left out is that most large parcels of land around the GTA are either owned by developers or optioned by them. They pay yearly to have the right to buy in the future. I haven't seen the inside of one of those contracts. I suspect the original owners got less than if the sales were closed after the announcement (but they still would have got a dump truck load of money).
Again, because media wants to make things sound bad, they like to hammer on developers donating to cons. Of course they did. If libs had a chance at being elected, they would have received max donation too. Buying political favour is cheap and cost-effective. Everybody with a chance gets max donation.

I don’t think he grasps the percentage of the Anyone But The Liberals block that voted for him look at the Greenbelt and/or Ontario Place as a Line In The Sand.
7,400 out of 2M acres is not even a rounding error. Does he promise not to do more or is this thin edge of the wedge?

I’d have done the same thing DoFo did , I may have leveraged the developers to consent to more row houses and semis , less McMansions . Even in current developments, the ratios are a bit stretched.
I love the signs in north Oakville “ save our farms “ , on the lawns of people that haven’t set foot on a farm in three generations.

The vast majority of people whine and try to stop development but don't comprehend that their own house was a farm a generation ago. Once you have yours, everyone else should be stopped. If you really want to save nature, buy some land or knock down your house and donate it to a conservation authority. I don't see many people doing that no matter how many Teslas are in the driveway.

NIMBYism at its finest. Sure seems like a lot of that going around.
Like the "Stop the quarry" ones that already have their McMansions of concrete and cut stone. Save the trees too so no lumber. Steel production causes pollution, not going to work. PETA is down on using buffalo hides.

My recommendation to Doug....put the greenbelt changes on hold or better yet cancel them outright. The developers in question can try their hands at farming.
It will never happen, BUT if it was just some staffer that did all this....shouldn't the corruption be reversed or put on hold pending years of investigations? Would that not be the right thing to do?
