Does Toronto actually have a plan?

You are absolutely right, i was not clear at all. Here we don't know whether they'll keep the 5% of the original 8k or whether they'll increase it to 5% of the 16k.

In the end, it's not enough to address the actual needs of the population and allegedly the mayor was pushing for more

We'll see where that lands.

"The prices start at $660,000 for a 489 square-foot"

What's the definition of affordable housing? 10% below market?

I’m a bit at odds with “what is affordable housing?”

It appears the common definition is 30% of gross income. At the prevailing base wage of approx 20/hr in the GTA, that would be $1100/mo for a single, and $2200 for an able bodied couple making $20/hr.

Seem to be accommodation available at those rates.

Time will tell (at least for that area)

1100 for a single is not something ive seen in a few years. Heck even for a bachelor

When i moved out of my 2-bedroom, 8 years ago, i was paying 1200 and that included a parking spot
Now you can get a single for (close to) double that amount on the same street.

A co-op near my old house had a surprising number of euro cars and lifted trucks. Rent geared to income but it sure seemed like many had a lot of unreported income. Ownership sort of fixes that problem too. Once you are in, you don't get kicked out as long as it is your primary residence. I would probably also add that you should not be allowed to own any other dwelling and remain in the program (including through a corporation). Otherwise some FIRE people could remain in the subsidized unit while building a rental empire.
A friend, living in subsidized housing was concerned about a $50,000 inheritance affecting his rent. It turned out that only the interest on the money was taken into consideration.

An aunt in a similar situation had to show her bank book at a regular review. She gave any extra money she had to her daughter who put it the daughters bank account. Anytime mom wanted something the daughter “bought” it for her out of the special account.

Neither is completely right. The money should be squandered by the politicians.

The social safety net has holes in it in some places and steel mesh in others.

A friend near UoT Erindale figures he can get $750 a month for a room with little LTB hassle

Lots of shared accommodation available in the $500-1000 range. Just for kicks, do a kijiji search on room for rent, pages of them in all parts of the GTA.

Oh well yeah splitting space is an option. I was talking single bedroom, not single room 😂

Roommates are a hit and a miss obviously but that's part of the reason for the price 😂. Out of the 4 I had, 1 was a nightmare (and we knew each other beforehand.. Or at least I thought I knew them).

My buddy had a 50% rate of success. One booted for smoking and another for taking other people's food. Fortunately it was only a room and LTB doesn't have the power it does with an apartment. He was worried about one that had a disability. Sadly some make their problems work for them.

Ha, same issue i had in university. She smoked INSIDE the apartment and her boyfriend basically lived with us. 🤷‍♂️ I didn't realize how lucky i was back then, sharing a $900 for a 3 bedroom with laundry inside the unit and 2 balconies and a 10 minute bus ride to uni (smaller city, other province). It was basically free lol

Did the BF pay his share? My S-I-L was sharing an apartment with two other girls and one girl's bf ended up staying there most of the time but the rent was still a three way split. The other kicker was if it was just three girls they could wander around in their undies, so a loss of privacy.

When I shared a house with 2 friends, the house rule was anyone sleeping over paid a sleepover tax — the tax was a two-four per night.

We would've been too drunk to function most days.
On the bright side, the depanneur was just down the stairs so it wouldve been easy lol

Anyone run into the couple exemption? Three people decide to share ride expenses and take one car. Agreed at $50 each. One decides to bring their snuggle buddy and says "Here's our third"

I was wondering how it was a dead heat race then all of a sudden it wasn't.

There is historical cases for any "pro Beijing" accusations being made.

So just got a letter today from the city notifying there is an issue with the water meter (MTU) which auto transmits usage data, might not be working correctly, and they will start estimating bills. Apparently this is a problem for other cities as well.

The real kicker is you can submit a reading by going to a civic centre or calling in..... it's F'ing 2024.. hello online submission??

No date when they will secure replacement. (y)

Don't dig too deeply into that or your head will explode. Many failing at just about half of expected lifetime. Parts are under warranty but not labour. Huge cost to replace and basically they all need to be done asap. By using warranty replacements instead of rfq for new meters they are setting themselves up to do this again in 10 years.

Not surprising..... </facepalm>

Olivia was being her usual nose to the grindstone, industrious self yesterday renaming (temporarily) Blue Jay Way Taylor Swift Way. Cleared the rest of her schedule for the day after all that hard work to have a nap.

Just leaving this right here:

More heads should have rolled. This is completely embarrassing, the silent treatment really shows what a chitshow our gov is. I'm sure eventually the truth about this and wasted funds will be revealed once everyone has moved on...
