does break in period mean I cant go on highways??

I would suggest you simply drive around town as much as you can stand for as long as you can stand in one sitting. If you do this for 2 or 3 days you will have enough mileage, with enough variation to break in the engine. You need to give the engine a good variation in speeds and loads. I do not know where you live, but if you are a 905'r you should be ok breaking the bike in this way.
When I got my very first bike I got the bike on the first day of my holidays. I spent the first two weeks driving all around west hill. Put 1000k on it 11 days. And never crossed lawrence or kingston road. After 1000k was on it, I rode it to Peterborough
 
Im in the mississauga area... Im gonna try your suggestion hopefully someone on here can suggest regular streets that are not as busy...
