Last week I was riding north on Scarlett Road between St. Clair and Eglinton. It's a nice curvy section passing a golf course. At the bottom of a short hill, a cop walks into my lane and waves me to stop so I do. Officer is a young guy, probably a rookie. He was pleasant enough and shows me the number on his radar, 84 km/h in what I assume was a 50 zone. I thought to myself, "Crap, there goes my clean record". First, he actually thanks me for stopping and says many bikers don't. Give him all my papers. He goes to his car and to my surprise, gets out within a couple of minutes, not enough time to write a ticket. Then he tells me I'm free to go and the ticket would've been $400! This is not the first time a Metro cop has let me go, seems I get a ticket about half the time I'm pulled over by Metro. So what's the deal? What factors make a cop decide not to give a ticket? Is it age, attitude, driving record, cool bike?
