Do you listen to music while riding?

Well I like the Ultimate ears for earphones. ( earbuds don't work ).

This is a good deal and will sound great and you can turn off and on and skip with the control

as for tunes - anything will work for source but getting an old iphone gives you lots of other stuff like GPS, maps etc

Trying to get a scala but not sure if it'll be for music or just plain communication. I dunno how music affects the mind while taking a corner at a "spirited" pace!

If you are riding very hard in the twisties then I'd say forgo anything including earplugs as I think there are subtle sounds from tires brakes and engine and most important tires/road surface.

I'm quite sure I heard my tire shred on that PA road. No music as was in chat mode.

But with a good song on in the twists you tend to want to up the game.
I turn the music off when I need to concentrate ( off road for instance rarely on ) and that's why I like the earphones with a on off skip button.
Scala is not for music in my view. It's for buddy chat and GPS directions ( I have both at once ).

The earphones like the Ultimate Ears don't reduce the ambient noise - 26 or so as much as full earplugs -33 and that's a good compromise in my view.
A program like Aware can let you hear even better as it goes through the microphone into the earphones.eliminating the helmet....it's kinda weird

I have the impression that when I listen to rock (Q107) in my car, I become a more aggressive driver.

I don't become aggressive per say but tend to speed more while listening to certain music, unaware in the moment. I told two cops that and got off with no points. Its understandable and believable and better than trying to lie your way out. That's when they nail ya lol

My bikes to loud for music just the way I like it.

Interesting that the guys who listen to music have bikes that don't sound like anything you'd want to listen to for a long time. For me, it's this. Certain songs elicit certain emotions. When I'm riding, my engine and pipe are hypnotic and every twist of the throttle is an exhilarating growl. Listening to a song with minor chords (Nirvana) would bring me down and ruin my buzz. Listening to a song with major chords (Mötley Crüe) would get me in trouble with HTA172. Bottom line is I don't like dealing with emotion while I'm riding. Riding [for me] is to escape emotion.

I listen to John Bonham drum solo's each and every ride. And he's drumming at his best/heaviest... all compliments of Ducati. I wear earplugs all the time - the wind will eventually get your hearing even with a quality helmet.

Yeah I listen to music all the time, even for rides like 5 mins using my Uclear HBC200 bluetooth headset. I also just bought Navigon for GPS so I'll see how I like it.

daily commute is 35 miles across 401, use earbuds and listen to 680 for the traffic reports

Lots of great hardware ideas on here. Thanks everyone who added links.

I too listen to music, except on short rides, and test rides after I do mechanical work. On the longer slabs I listen comedy albums.

I always wear Earphones that have the volume adjustment on the cord so I can turn down the music if needed.
I'm finding after a few hours my ears heart from having the bugs in them. I gotta look into that

One of the guys I met riding wears these LG Tone (HBS-700). For solo riding it seems like a nice piece of hardware. I might pick one of these up to listen to tunes, gps directions and answer phone calls, etc.

Just a note can we get the terms correct

headphones - do not go in the ear - they sit outside the ear and are over the head or behind the neck - they are open air or closed and unless you are in a no helmet state they don't figure into riding.

earphones go in the ear and are what most riders use and can run from $10 to $1,000+

ear buds sit on the inside of the ear but do not go in - they can be used but do not offer any seal and are usually on the low end of cost

In helmet sound - are speakers that are in the helmet. They can be heard over earplugs and are generally designed for voice clarity not music.

Only earphones provide the seal to both reduce ambient noise and allow proper bass response.

I got a Sena SMH10 and use the in-helmet speakers that came with it.
I also wear earplugs to block out the other stuff. I like to hear the music/radio/phone call but also turn it off when I don't. Good to have options.

If you can afford it, look into a Scala/Sena/inHelmet solution. At least with Bluetooth, you don't always have to be pulling at wires.

Sena might be different but the Scala Q2 and G4 are tinny as hell - never meant for music. Now the later models are using the enhanced BlueTooth for music and might be better but nothing beats wired and earphones for quality - even if it is annoying at times.

Those BT interfaces look interesting tho as it lets you keep your high end earphones and cuts the cord.

Yeah a couple of my friends have the Sena where you can plug in your own head phones, they seem to like them
I just can't have earbuds in my ears for more than an hour without it irritating me. Great that there are so many options out there.

I have the same setup. I find that music sounds better with earplugs in. With no earplugs the sound is tinny and horrible, can't listen to it.

My set up is just a pair or earbuds with iPhone control (buttons are larger than the standard earbuds from apple, easier to control with gloves on) and I can quickly stop the music with one click.

Not sure how good this all is for my ears in the long run though lol

Yes I do, I use my Scala G9 and my iphone via bluetooth......it works flawlessly!
