Do bikes have to wait in the car line while crossing the US border?

Almost never have a good experience at Queenston. We never get pulled in but there is almost always a delay.
Rainbow and the Peace Bridge are rarely backed up, and when they are things move fairly well.

If you can get Nexxus, do it. I keep meaning to but never get around to it. I work in NF clsoe to the border. One of my co-workers will run out at lunch with Nexxus hit the Whirlpool bridge to get gas and be back in the office in under 1/2 hour. On average I think gas is about .25/litre cheaper anywhere over the river, so you save almost $20 per fill less the toll.

Have seen the Customs Officer send them to the back of the line and watched them to make sure.

I know it is off subject but the Customs officers watch everything very closely.

A riding friend and I stopped at the entrance to the area where cars line up to get passports out of our topcases. It took us maybe 15 minutes to get to the customs and they asked us why we had stopped. We were surprised they noticed.

yep.

When I did a lot of my European travels, and even now in the car, when crossing the border, we always removed sunglasses when approaching the booth. Do they ask you to remove glasses ? I dont know as I just do it as a matter of habit.

Oh, and on your bikes, when do you remove your helmets? When they ask you to? or before?

I generally ask as I pull up. I have a modular, though, and I have the front flipped up when I pul up and they almost always say don't bother.

ive been crossing with my Nexxus pass. they dont even ask to remove the helmet!

I always wonder if I would frustrate them fumbling to get my gloves off, pull off my glasses (prescription) then undo and pull off the helmet, put the glasses on so I can see and read again,...

going to the US last weekend.. - Gloves off, turn bike off. Had to take helmet off. Answer a few Questions on our intentions in the US and our nationality. (Canadian Passport). No problems

coming back yesterday, handed over passport, turned bike off, asked if they wanted helmet (full face) off. She said no need, asked how long was away and anything to declare.

easy.

BTW - watch or leaking coolant and other crap on the road when lining up at the border.

you never know what you are going to get. It's a crapshoot really. sometimes they are *******, sometimes not, sometimes they dont give a ****. I've crossed saying i purchased a bunch of stuff and they didnt even care.

that being said, having a nexus pass means I can get in and out of the border in about 5 minutes. it's great

<points> YOU!! Over there ------->

Exactly. It has happened. It does happen. It will continue to happen. To start with, lane splitting is illegal. Why would anyone want to draw attention to himself, by doing an illegal act, while travelling towards a place where people get strip searched?

went over last Friday (in the car) via Peace Bridge. Idiot truck driver was coming around the cornier running up the back of my wifes car blasting his horn at her. She was in her appropriate late, but he was coming around the turn so quick he was using 2 lanes. He went over the bridge at what had to be twice the speed limit posted.

If anywhere I would be following all the rules this has to be the place.
