DIY: Visor Tinting (with vinyl)

Great DIY! My old man wants to add a 1/2" band across the top of his clear visor to act as a sun visor in a similar fashion...

Where did you get the vinyl from? - EDIT: Haha, I should have read the whole thread... CT it is.. Thanks

Okay chaps, this here is how to tint your helmet visor with vinyl. (Sorry, no pics of the process, but have before and after. Maybe next time I do it, I will take pics)

What you need:
1. VINYL tint. NOT "window tint"
2. Hair dryer
3. Scissors/exacto knife

Process:
1. Cut off a piece of vinyl that will fit the size of your visor
2. Get a friend to hold the visor while you manipulate the vinyl
3. Start from the exact middle and work your way out
4. Vinyl sticks on with static and not glue so it comes off and back on again easy
5. Use hair dryer to mould and stretch the vinyl across the visor
6. Once finished, take exacto knife and cut off excess material
7. Enjoy

Notes:
- Going to Canadian tire and buying 'window tint' will not work. That **** is cheap plastic
- What you want is stretchy vinyl. I got 20% tinted vinyl. It says "tint" on the box, but make sure it's vinyl
- You can use water, but you will need to stretch the vinyl around the visor due to spherical bends
- I prefer using just a hair dryer and a dry application, if you **** up, you can take it off and start again
- It cost me $20 and covers two car windows or like 100 helmet visors, lol

Damn that might fit my Mag8 - cool thanks.

I want strip of tint for when the Mag8 visor is up.

This is the Mag9 but same visor - you can see the strip that stays exposed.

But this should work for that strip.

Damn. Found it from CT website. 29.99. The packaging looks diffe rent from what OP used

Completely useless.
I would rather swap visors than peel and reapply tint film.

I tried a product made specifically for bike helmets once; was a pain to put on, occasionally would lift a corner and buzz in the airflow, was generally unpleasant.

I now have a Bell Star with a Transition visor and it's fantastic!

I thought the point about being able to peel it off was in the even that you got caught without a clear visor and needed one - you could peel the tint off if you wanted.

Yep, exactly. Mina clearly missed that. It's such a convenience if you are caught out at night and there is either no street lights, or just the minimal, or you straight up want more visibility, simply peel off the tint, and ride home safe. Otherwise, having a tinted visor, you have to lift it at night for more visibility, I'd say that pretty dangerous seeing as how anything can fly into your eye.

So, Mina, you see, your post is quite useless. The definition of useless is "having no use". Visor tints have a use, your post does not. Lol

Hey yeah, I think I know what product you are talking about. Those like localised tints that cover the eye area but not the whole visor. I guess they could be ******. With this DIY the only way you know is to try. And so far I've had no problems with my application.

But I agree, a whole separate visor is what you want and the transition one is pretty cool but if I want an Icon helmet and some style points, it's not really for me. Although in the long term I will pick up a tinted Icon visor ;)

I bought a Bell helmet especially for the Visor. I haven't had to change a visor in 3yrs
Probably just my luck.
Bell fits me better than anything else out there, but I can't put my glasses on while wearing one.
Hard to believe Arai hasn't offered one. We're crazy enough to pay >$100 for a tinted one - imagine what they could / would charge for a transition visor?

The only other helmets to carry them are Akuma & Lazer. I have no clue what brand those are.
I need one for my Suomy
