Did they legalize lane-splitting/filtering or is it 'do as I say...'?

Been a while since I've owned the bike so I wanted to see if they legalized lane-splitting or if these cops are just doing it because they can get away with it because they're Peel cops?

did they ride through traffic to the front like that? i assume they did based on the positioning of the KIA SUV to the bike.

based on the picture vehicles cannot share the lane like that, whoever got there there first is in the right.

No lane splitting is not legal still.

I drove up to that.. But let's put it this way.. If 2 cops on cruisers were 'holding hands' across 2 lanes and 2 different cagers decided to get into each lane, those cops would be getting out their ticket-books lol

Never underestimate the stupidity of Kia drivers. They could have pulled up right beside the cop.

As for "is this legal", last week I saw a special constable in a fully marked cruiser going 30 over for many kilometers while eating a sandwich. Do as I say, not as I do 100% with most blue.

Let me fix your error...

Never underestimate the stupidity of drivers.

The type of car/truck/SUV has nothing to do with it, to think that is dangerous and naive.. I expect better from you @GreyGhost :p

While I agree with the statement, you know that if a cop was sitting in a lane and a cager pulled up next to them in the same lane, they'd be writing them a ticket. That's why it's a lot more likely that those 2 cops just lane-split their way to the front of the line.

While all vehicles are potentially driven by idiots, my eyeball average indicates that certain personality types are attracted to certain brands and vehicles. Most kia drivers don't give a crap about driving and have little situational awareness ime. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they saw a hole left of the bike and pulled into it.

That's because KIA/Hyundai SUV's of today are the Civics of yesterday - driven by the lowest common denominator. I wouldn't be surprised with one of them pulling up to a bike to share the lane space but I would be surprised if the bike was ridden by a cop and the KIA left without the driver getting an offence notice.

I have driven Kia's for years. zero tickets, accidents or infractions.
You guys gave me a good laugh...

While I put little faith in this list, I was wondering what vehicles are in the most accidents in Ontario. I'm taking off my tinfoil hat now...

Sample size of 2,176 recorded accidents
1.Honda Civic LX 4DR – involved in 2.56% of all accidents
2.Toyota Corolla LE 4DR – accounting for 2.05% of all accidents
3.Dodge Grand Caravan SE – involved in 2.02% of all accidents
4.BMW 328i xDrive 4DR AWD – with a 1.89% accident rate
5.Mercedes C300W 4MATIC 4DR – at 1.41% of all accidents
6.Ford Mustang 2DR – involved in 1.20% of all accidents
7.Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus 50 4DR – accounting for 1.16% of all accidents
8.Volkswagen GTI 2.0 TSI 4DR Hatchback – involved in 1.10% of all accidents
9.Ford F150 XLT Supercrew 4WD – with a 1.07% accident rate
10.Tesla Model Y 75D Long Range 4DR AWD – at 1.02% of all accidents

Looks like they are the Civics of today as well..

Looks like they are the Civics of today as well..
I would love if that list was divided by number registered and plated. How many more civics and corrollas are there than c300's? Probably an order of magnitude.

I didn't say all Kia drivers suck. Like everything in life, it's just playing the odds. Like predicting a duckwalk from a Harley rider. There are some good riders but the odds of a duckwalk are very high.
Don't try and back your way out of this, my feelings are hurt, I'm crying and in need of a hug and a tissue... Damn I ride Harley's as well... when does it stop...

Yea, I am sure 2,176 accidents is a drop in the pond for what is actually happening in Ontario and how many are never reported?
But if we're eyeballing bad drivers, my money is going on Tesla drivers... Made the list twice..

The pic doesn't give enough info.. who know how they got Ito those positions.

Lane splitting and lane filtering aren't legal.. but they're also not specifically illegal. It's a bit of a grey area..

1) Do you really think a couple of bike cops would have just continued sitting there after a couple of cagers decided to squeeze into their spots in the lanes?
2) I don't know how many group rides you went on, but my groups would stay within a single lane. That is why it's more plausible that they just filtered between the cagers to get in front at the light.

They probably did.. but the pic doesn't show that.
I think splitting and filtering are okay.. but the board doesn't want to hear it.
no group rides.. side by side sometimes.. split and filter whenever I want.

I imagine they'd call a tow truck and impound vehicles if they were going to write a ticket. In for a penny, in for a pound.
Pretty sure that Long Branch (Etobicoke), isn't Peel region, so they might be out of their jurisdiction, unless that's been changed.
