Did the cop show up?

Hey guys,

I got a ticket the other day and I'm trying to weight out my options to see if it's worth taking a day off work to fight this thing or not. I've pretty much figured it out that the only way it is worth it is if the ticket is completely dropped, which will most likely only happen if the cop doesn't show up. I've fought a ticket before and the cop didn't show up, but I'm wondering if I was just lucky that day.

So my question to all of you is...when you took your ticket to court, did the cop show up?

fight it regardless, because the insurance premium increase will be greater than 1 day's lost wage.

edit: unless you're a baller and don't care about any number with less than three 0's after it.

They'll almost always show as they make 1.5-2x normal pay for court duty (from what my cop friends say)...

To my personal experience it's been 50% no show rate in peel region. Again that's just me.

Same speeding case, cop showed up like 3/4 times..he DID show up on the fourth time, but he left because my case was put last due to complications.

haha if I was a baller I probably would be riding something nicer than an '04 zx6r ;). I don't think one ticket will make a significant difference on my insurance, so it's not really that I'm worried about...it's if I get a second ticket later. Then I'm effed.

3/5 no show when I went to court (in Hamilton, Toronto and York). Where did you get the ticket? I have heard that the smaller the municipality the more likely they are to show (but no personal experience on that).

I got the ticket in Guelph, but it was from an OPP officer, not sure if that'll make a difference or not?

They're gonna show up.

If they can have 6 OPP cruisers for one radar trap on the hanlon on a saturday morning, they have enough cops to show up to traffic court.

Of the 6 times I went to traffic court over the years, 4 times they showed up. All those that showed up were speedtrap officers.

bastards! This is where they got me too, but on Sunday afternoon. Dammit. I think you're going to be right about this.

1/3 showed up.

The one was for a speeding ticket recently, and it was the downtown court location.

The other two was for a U turn (YRP, High Tech Rd location), and a parking in fire route (from parking enforcement).

so far they've showed up 3/3 at my end (two in Toronto, one in Newmarket), the no-show gods haven't been good to me

OPP shows all the time. Get someone to fight the tix for you.

Your cop friend is a liar LOL. they always schedule court time during the officers "on duty time" to prevent over time pay bc thats a huge expense to any divisions budget...thats just common sense!!

If there was more tan one cop there (radar trap) they will show up. Good chances are they were traffic specialists in Guelp/halton and court time is apart of their regular duty.

Fight it regardless, a reduced ticket is better any day! Especially if its your first one!

Well the problem is that it's already reduced first of all (I ended up getting a 15 over ticket when I was actually doing 46 over). Also, the loss of pay from taking a day off work won't be even close to the $52 I save if they reduce the fine. It wasn't a group of cops doing radar, just one, some british dude I could hardly understand :p.

I gave my advice. It's obviously your decision. Sounds like you already made it before posting.

Incorrect it really depends on the region. Some regions schedule them on the officers days off. It is in their best interest for them to show up since it's 3 hours per court card in some circumstances. However if the amount of overtime generated puts them into a higher tax bracket that may be the reason for not showing up.
