Destinations in the US that are accessible via car over a long weekend?

lol they're vague because I don't know anything about the US.

Scenario is as follows: girl friend needs some time away from her work life.

Thinking of going during the Civic holiday in August. noobie's Naval museum seems really interesting actually...

If you want to make points with the GF find out what she likes.

We like the Mid Ohio, Holmes county area. Amish stuff etc. 5-6 hours of slab gets you there. Not a lot of heavy history if that's her thing but if she's into cutesy Amish farm stuff it's really good. They have half decent swerving back roads just about everywhere. If she wants a break from the bike you can drop her off in one of the little tourist trap towns to shop for a quilt while you twist your wrist a little more enthusiastically for a bit.

May not be her thing

Roscoe Village in Coshocton is biker popular and mixes a restaurant or two with some heritage shops.

Look up Millersberg and Berlin if interested.

If I'm travelling solo I usually stay at the Best Western in Urichesville. It's basic, older, few amenities, park in front type near gas, beer and fast food. With the wife I go for the more modern Comfort Inn in Millersberg. It has an indoor pool, hot tub etc and is hiking distance to other things if you decide to do a solo run while she browses.

Why not just pick an Ontario destination? Whether you're looking for scenic, shopping, historic, whatever there is plenty to see going to eastern or near-northern Ontario or even Quebec. There will be no currency exchange woes, and no potential for hours spent at the border waiting for inspection as you leave and return to Canada.

You have some of the best cities in North America within a 8-10 hour drive from Toronto. Chicago, New York, Washington, Boston, Philadelphia (my order of preference). Pick one and go.

Those are pretty ambitious destinations for a 3 day weekend.

Depends on what you want to do. I did Chicago and back in two days on the bike last weekend. Got there at 5, walked around a bit, had some deep dish pizza, had some drinks. Did some more walking around the following morning. Left Chicago at 3, back in Toronto at 12.

Had a great time, good way to clear your head.

It took me three days just to find a place to park in New York.Just kidding but the last time I was there we parked in a lot,the attendant made us cram four big touring bikes into one spot and charged us each $30.That's a $120 for one parking spot for the afternoon, crazy!

New York parking is always a nightmare. Last time I parked my bike on across the street from my hotel near Times Square, don't know if it was legal or not but didn't get a ticket or towed. Other/better option is to stay in Newark and subway it over.

Or even better, fly Porter from Toronto Island Airport.

HWY 17 is actually a pretty nice drive, about the same time as the mind numbing I90 too

yeah, I was going to say if you go to 8 hours you can make Chicago. There's your ticket.

Porter also flies to Chicago for not much money, I've done it once. If you're going to visit a major US city, driving is a waste of time.

Especially when Porter has their sales. Catch it at the right time and you can fly there for a weekend and back for under $300.
