Haven't been to the US in a very long time (10+ years). What would be something worth doing if I drove down there with a friend over a long weekend? Not too interested in Buffalo as I know nothing is there.

Depends on where you're going of course. America is a big place ya know?

Lake Placid? Only about 6 or 7 hours away.

You wanna do sight seeing? Events? You like Nature? wanna hit up a big city? do some shopping?

How much driving do you want to do? 5 hours? 10 hours?

Can you be a little more vague? Your parameters are pretty vague now, but with a little more effort you can give us even less information to help you.

Obligatory "pictures of friend required, to help plan your trip" response.

1. Pick Random direction
2. Drive
3. At halfway point of weekend stop, turn around
4. Drive home

Road Trip complete!

If you are talking the July 4 long weekend I would suggest Cleveland to the Rock & Roll Hall of fame (about 5 hr drive). Pick up some Cleveland Indians souvenirs. Then Pittsburgh (about another 2 hrs), check out a Pirates game on Saturday (coincidentally playing the Indians). Go to the Pirates Pregame block party. After the game drive down to West Virginia, just because its close (another 2 hours). Get up Sunday and drive back (approx. 8 hours depending on where you end up in WV)

One province and four states (NY/OH/PA/WV) all in one weekend.

That my strategy. Leave driveway. Instruct the GPS to give me the route home. GPS computes route and ETA.

I keep riding in any direction I want to see and stop at whatever interests me as I come across it. The GPS will take care of my route home and expected ETA back home. I just keep riding until I see the ETA I have in mind on the GPS screen.

Buffalo actually has a lot of interesting spots if those spots are to your liking. Frank Lloyd Wright architecture, Anchor Grill, home of Buffalo wings, Naval museum with a submarine and a few surface ships.

Six or so hours driving takes you to Amish Ohio around MIllersberg. Quaint, cheap and interesting roads.

Five or so hours to the Finger Lakes. Wineries, museums, waterfalls, Watkins Glen. An accommodation disaster if there's a race on at the track in the Glen.

Boston is a great city but a little far for a weekend trip.Cleveland's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is something everyone should see once and it's an easy but boring drive.Lake Placid is a much nicer drive especially if you go through Prince Edward County and the Ganonoqua Parkway on the Canadian side if you have time.Keep in mind border crossings are very busy on long weekends!

lol they're vague because I don't know anything about the US.

Scenario is as follows: girl friend needs some time away from her work life. I offered to do a road trip. Normally my road trips are, pick a direction with the gang, find some twisties, get lost, find twisties, ride in a random direction, get more lost, fumble our way back home through the rain over 1000km because some idiot didn't check the weather. That's really fun for me but she's terrified of the bike and 1000km on a supersport as passenger is probably a torture rack.

So I figured, drive south, do light shopping, see scenic stuff, get under the sheets. Light shopping and scenic places in the US I am unfamiliar with though.

Thinking of going during the Civic holiday in August. noobie's Naval museum seems really interesting actually...

USAF Museum in Dayton OH. Free admission and free parking
Best museum I've ever been to.If you have any interest in aviation or history its an absolute must see.I got my picture taken leaning against a decommissioned atomic bomb, where else could you do that.Plan on spending a whole day there.
