Derek Sloan ejected from caucus

Don't know much about the situation, but I would agree that on the surface this seems to be an excuse to purge an undesirable member from the party.

From his Wikipedia page (yah yah Wikipedia... there are sources cited)

A self-identified social conservative, Sloan attracted controversy for the policy positions he endorsed throughout the leadership race.[14] Sloan stated that were he elected leader he would permit Conservative MPs to reopen the abortion debate or introduce private member bills aimed at over-turning same sex marriage.[14] He also voiced opposition to Bill C-16, which protects people from discrimination on the basis of gender identity.[15] He also vowed to vote against a federal ban on the pseudoscientific practice of conversion therapy, arguing that parents should be able to make children identify with the body they are born with.[16] Sloan has been widely criticized in the media and even within the Conservative Party for these views.[17][3][18]

Those views, while may have some support within the party, are a one way ticket to unpopularity in the whole of Canada.
 
Let's get this straight. O'Toole is not going to win any election because he doesn't have the charisma. Sloan's actions and comments indicate he was playing footsie with the far-right racists, so he had to go.
