Demo Days 2019

Sounds like I'm going to have to fight for that Scout Bobber =S

I'm surprised they haven't put up Harley demo days, they seem very popular. There are a few models I'd like to try. I ride sportbikes now, but have had my eye on getting a cruiser at some point for a while now.

Call your local HD dealer to inquire about a test ride on the model that interests you. They usually have numerous models for test rides available for serious buyers. HD demo days are also listed on the HD webpage (just input your location). They were in Kentucky last weekend while we were in Nashville.

My friend bought a a Scout last month for his wife and he loves it. Been riding it while his Ultra is in the shop.

Indian Scout Bobber is one of those cruisers many sportbike riders could get into, it takes twisties pretty good as far as cruisers go and you really gotta rev the engine out it redlines way past most cruisers. It sounds very nice with some proper pipes. The tank is small but that comes at the cost of its good looks, it has a rather uncomfy stock seat (which it shouldn't for the price they charge) and only single front disc but doesn't seem to be an issue and the rear is good.

I am surprised. I would have thought that insurance would cover it.

It was in the $1600 range. Rider dropped it rolling back into Burl Cycle. I was there and know the rider.

Re insurance? Whose insurance did you think would cover a f up?
When we go on demo rides, there's not usually a fee. If there was, part of it might be for ins.
The back of those waivers we sign have a ton of small print. I've never read any of it, but we all should.

I forget the details, but, roughly a couple decades ago, a rider was smoked, either leaving, or returning to Cycle City on a demo ride. Someone here might remember more about it and chime in.

Never been on a group demo ride but it sounds like it has the potential to be dramatic. Bunch of riders (some novices, some yahoos) on unfamiliar, potentially more powerful than their own ride, bikes.

Yes, there's potential for just about anything.
Until 2014, I went on every demo ride available.
My closest encounter with a fail, was on a 650 burgman. I had to slow down and make a right, going back into dealer's lot. I temp forgot wtf I was riding, and grabbed me some (what i thought was clutch) left handle. Apparently......that's one of the brakes. I saved it, barely.

Depending who's running them .......it's hit or miss when it comes to fun factor.
The best, imho, was powersport junction, in guelph. Lead rider used an R1, and so did I. (1st yr of the x-plane) And, unlike many demo rides, they put the power / sport bikes at the front. That was a ride I'll never forget.
Honda got annoying. At one time, the 1000RR was always 1st, behind the lead. The 600 followed, and so on. When they reversed the order, and put the RR at the back, I got yelled at....at least once a yr. Think they called it slingshotting. So, I rode the whole route in 1st gear one day (1000RR). I got **** for wheelies on that ride.

BMW (at least where i went) does not have you sign anything, Maranello asks $20 per ride for charity.

The others with waivers essentially say the usual jargon;

  • If you have an accident and sustain an injury you cannot sue us
  • You promise not to be stupid with our property
  • If you damage the bike being stupid you will end up owning it

Usually you have to fill out a form and either they or you add your driver's license info. I've seen someone drop a bike and they didn't have to pay for anything since it was just a minor scrape on the bars. I haven't seen worse. I have however had people almost rear-end me. I don't understand how some of these guys are "experienced riders" (their words) and get on the bikes and become completely incompetent. Actually I do, it's just very cringeworthy.

I would assume if there was a road accident then your insurance would kick in. I'd rather not find out.

Was on BMW Canada site. I booked my slot about 5-6 weeks ago

I booked a ride for this Sunday a few weeks ago but haven't heard anything from the dealership. Did the one in Barrie contact you directly prior to the ride or did you just show up for the demo?

Yes they did. Within day or two. Easy set up. They will take a pic of your license. No forms to fill out. Nothing to sign. Comments above about it being on your insurance if you drop the bike I cant see that. Again your not signing anything. Thats like saying if I willingly let my neighbour ride my bike and he has an accident it will be on his insurance. No it won't.

Insurance follows the vehicle not the individual. What if you didn't even have your own bike/insurance?

BMW in Toronto usually has 2 days a year.
