Dean Blundell show suspended

His comments show a bias against homosexual men. Had that bias been known previous to the trial, he would not have been on that jury.

He's made tons of gay jokes in the past. If anything, his conduct after the trial only shows that he's not trying to hide any so-called bias. It's entertainment. To me this is like saying someone's biased against humans because he/she said "people are stupid" on air.

Anyone know a good talk and music online radio?

Pandora with freevpnaccess.com keeps me pretty happy but sometimes I miss good talk radio.

I was wondering why they weren't on the last few days...

eh, most days I plug my phone in and listen to my own music anyways.

I always found them to be a cheap knock off of howard stern. Have not listened to the Dean Blundell show in many many years. When I want music, I play my own, when I want talk, then I go to a talk only station or sat radio.

Well damn, so much for laughing to the podcasts during my commute.

Any podcast suggestions with similar programming?

so much for freedom of speech

not about that....it's about $$$

if the Blundell show was a ratings cash-cow then what they said woulda been no biggie imo

Blundell has been very highly paid for him time....but has not delivered the ratings

the little rant and backlash just make the timing better

Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences.

Corus is a private company in a regulated industry they can do as they please to hire and fire those they feel break or push those regulations.

They story that caused the issue is still free to be said in public and private without risk of arrest or censorship.

Thats the point the things he said could show he has BIAS and overturn a legal ruleing.

I loved the Dean Blundell show, but that was before, and during college - nearly a decade ago. While I'm not familiar with the recent incident that got them suspended; the show had run it course and should have ended about 3 years ago.

In the beginning and for many years, the Dean Blundell show had a lot of very good and original content. Many contests (I remember all these "Wheel of ______"), bits, skits and odd guests.

Then in became TMZ, and reliant on listener input. They got really lazy. And maybe a funding cut?

I doubt this.

I highly believe it was not just the sensitivity of the homophobic jokes, but the fact that Derek Welsman (producer of the show) was talking about a former court case for which he was the foreman. The accused person is now appealing the conviction based on this... so it's a lot more of a mess than it has been before.

IMO, the regulators wanted Blundell off the air for a long time. This was their perfect opportunity of "you pushed the envelope too far now buddy... see ya".

the Canadian Justice System prohibits jurors from disclosing the content of their deliberation. Welsman, the foreman juror, discussed Dowholis’ trial on-air once while it was still active, and twice after the verdict (annotated – ostensibly for purposes of humour – with very bad GAY jokes). According to the Toronto Star, Welsman was approached during the trial by the prosecution, a lead detective, and even the judge with concerns for his discriminatory on-air views (essentially, he was given a firm talking to),

You can have freedom of speech, buy a radio station then say whatever you like, have advertisers walk away en mass? Paying the bills comes a bit in front of allowing staff to say whatever they think may be funny. Blundells last couple years with his very public and unpleasant divorce being "on air" regularily was sad to listen to. He had become a very bitter man and a few months ago when he was told to stop talking about poop everyday on the show, bowel movements aren't that funny, he mocked the management on air, you can only poke the bear so long.

Wow, seriously? Poo jokes? This guy must have had zero respect for his audience. Probably laughing all the way to the bank.

I still found his show funny. Good for a laugh in the morning, and I don't get that much from other radio stations.

I use to look forward to listening to their retard spotting sketches when the weather turned bad.

The show had gone downhill after Todd left, just as it had when Jason left. I found myself barely listening to the show.

Perhaps the loss of listeners was the biggest reason why the program got shelved.
