Ok folks, I got a home camera system with Blink and find it’s pretty good.

Wondering what GTAM folks are using for their cages? Thinking front and rear cams would be ideal but, not sure about cost and install?

The home stuff is pretty slick.

Lord knows I’ve seen my share of tomfoolery on the road. Just thinking it might be nice have some back up for insurance or any other crazy town stuff happens.

Starting with the cages first before diving in the bike.

Input is appreciated.

Cheers!

My current setup;

2channel (front and rear cam)
Battery pack wired to the cam (so it doesn't drain the car battery) but that's only because i wanted 24/7 recording for my baby! Battery pack recharges off the engine only when the car is running.

Lucked out that the install shop was running a special-

Holy fook. I have a $50 Amazon special.

That setup looks like you’re getting ready to film one of those 250kmh YouTube runs thru the GTA in a Jag.

Prior to this I ran a $100 cam from Amazon which worked just fine.

This setup has radar in the front and rear cameras so it will turn on and start recording when it detections motion close enough to the car. That's what I was really aiming for.

But now that you mention it...I should get some sick footage of future car rallys to the US with the boys!

I have some Chinese "4k" forward looking and I bought but have not yet installed the one @PrivatePilot recommended as a rear camera. It has no battery so no parking recording. I mainly have them to record stupidity/criminals trying to blame me for their driving so I don't really care about parking recording.

Are proper two channel systems that record in one location better? Without a doubt. Can you get better cameras than I've got? Without a doubt. I am in for <$200 for both cameras, fused power leads and SD cards though. I have no camera that records video of the inside of the car.

EDIT:
Focuway M3 in front window. Meh. Seems to work. Has wifi. Very occasionally it doesn't start recording when you start car. I have a suspicion that it is related to a possible parking event while it was off but if so, that's a crap way to notify me. In any case, press a button and it starts working.

Dam!
Hey at least you save $250! :p

Mines a cheapie and resolution isn't great. It does show whether the light was red and who did what but if the event wasn't really close you don't see licence numbers.
That's all I'm looking for. I don't need the ability to read plates or what not. I want to be able to show if I wasn't an idiot, and someone's idiocy caused my crash...I want it on camera.

But I need to decide soon as the roads are getting worse, and that stupid awesome GTI doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

Just install it with the dangly cord for now. If you decide to keep it or have a spare day then you can hard wire it and bury the cord.

Pretty sure I have 2 sitting around. Just needs a memory card and new double sided tape....in fact I have some double sided Velcro that should work.

If anyone wants them PM me and I'll go dig up the stuff and see what's what.

In fact I might even have a 3rd that was never used on my wife's old car.

If you've got em sitting around then yes, definitely interested as a temporary measure.
