Daily sports car?

A convertible is an absolute must for a summer car.My mom had a 68 Firebird convertible. There’s nothing like cruising with the top down on a spring day.

This! Eases the longing to ride on those nice days when you have to take the car. And with wind blockers and new cabin designs, it can even be freezing outside and you can still cruise comfortably with the top down and heater on.

Also, it's common knowledge not to take German cars to the dealership after the warranty. I made that (very expensive) mistake, but after discovering how competent and cheaper independent shops are, it makes ownership a bit less painful on the wallet.

Out of curiosity, who would you recommend in the GTA?

It's been a while since I even lived in the GTA, much less owned a car, but when I did, I took my vehicles to HP Cars (used to be Heimrath Performance) out in Scarborough. Mario always treated me right, never did unnecessary repairs, and took time to explain what all the options were (repair, replace, OEM, aftermarket, etc) and his recommendations always saved me money and worked out to be the best solution in the long run.

Go to the dealerships, and they'll replace anything with a bit of dirt on it with OEM parts, and charge you for the displeasure.

To quote a very famous philosopher from Hamilton, "not even with your money".

Haha. Love that guy. Even if I could get over the looks, I can't imagine driving anything with 300 HP and torque to the front wheels. Apparently they've worked some magic on the chassis, but I'd have to drive it myself to be convinced, and even then $42K for a Civic? Rather have a used S2000 with a turbo kit on it. Or a Miata with a V8 transplant. Or a 2003 era Viper. Or...

Not too many in the snow, but they are out there. These cars aren't daily drivers, for most, so the grocery getters get used in the snow for the majority. AWD over the vette in my case, and being ocd, it would be impossible to keep it clean. And. We're allowed to suspend liability in the off season (45 day minimum, no max) the way we could with bikes when the world was a better place.
On the cdn forum, a member was posting pics frequently in the winter, from Saskatchewan. Studded snows are legal there. He raved about how good it was in -40C weather. (shown on his dash).
There's more room in the back than most people think. A new fridge from Home Depot is not going to fit, but......this is a sports car thread.
I don't think the fun factor can be equalled (Z06 with Z07 pkg), even for twice the money.
If you haven't already, try and take a C7 for a demo ride. It'll likely only be a Ray (460hp), but I'm certain you'll have a different opinion.......especially the rear end lightness(?) that I sure don't notice.
If someone lets you loose in a Z06 (650hp).....buckle up!!!
Summer only / 335's on the rear make it feel strapped to the pavement.

I don't believe in parking my car for the winter. What's the point of having it if I'm not driving it in the winter and also not driving it in the summer because I'm riding? I get that some people cherish their cars, but to me it's just another machine like my lawnmower. Granted, my lawn mower is probably better maintained than some peoples' cars...

I don't believe in it either.
But this is about 'sport' cars, isn't it?
My car is factory equipped with summer only 'sport' tires. They are next to useless in 4C temps, or lower.
With no grip, it can be driven....but there's no point. Exactly like a bike.
You don't see 'sport' cars in this region all yr round for obvious reasons.
Tracks, raceways, dragstrips don't accommodate 'sport' cars in the winter. There's reasons for that.
If you want to call mustangs, etc 'sport' cars.....have at it.
If you really want a new one.....hit me up. Retired from ford. I'll give you one of my 4 family member discounts, cousin.
I'll never use one.

What's the discount % like ?

My current vehicle came with Michelin pilot 4s tires from the factory and they stamped the same in the door jam. Went to a tire store to get them replaced with all seasons, and they outright refused saying it's a safety hazard if I put anything other than what's indicated in the door jam. Morons. Had I not been getting a 25% discount from Michelin, I would've went to a local mechanic.

Of course, there are some sport cars which are almost race cars and it is a little bit uncomfortable to drive them in the winter. But you know, there are track days in winter! And they are fun!

Yes, many sport cars will come on summer only tires (if you buy them in summer) but you can always install winter tires! And that is much better than having all-season tires. Anyway, I had just an amazing last winter with my mustang and I always chose it instead of other cars even if I had to move them around in order to get it out of the garage. Btw, mustangs (and I think camaro and others) have "winter" mode in drive modes! And it changes car's behaviour a lot..

I've always wanted to participate on a track in the winter.....it looks like more fun than snow mobiles.
Is there place to go on a regular basis nearby?
I'd buy a car just for this, if it's not a 4hr ride each way.

My car has a mode for everything too. I set the exhaust to track, dash to sport, and suspension is usually on tour, to soften it out a bit.
My ridgeline has a bunch of settings. I scrolled through them day 1, and never touched the button since. Works great in snow, ice as is.

I grew up learning to drive when power steering was an option. While I do believe all the driver aid technology helps to make driving easier and safer (especially for the less than talented drivers), there's a real problem when people start to rely on it and can't drive without them. I can't believe they no longer teach threshold braking but instead instruct them to smash the brake pedal to the floor and leave it to ABS...

Also, take a look at the cars I've owned above. I forgot to mention a few others that were also RWD, and when I was young and invulnerable (I'm still cheap), used to drive with bald RE71's in the snow...
