Cycle World Superstore Misery - Never again

GP Bikes is just another 20 minutes down the 401.... and they treat people right! Great deals and great staff... how can you lose?

is Jim the short guy with glasses? man, cycleworld really is a dump. jim just makes it worse.

my friend was looking at a bike. i was there. i got tired so i put my elbow on the rear seat of a bike, i was not leaning. this jim guy came by went "NO LEANING ON BIKE", then i sat on the bike. jim came again said "NO SITTING ON BIKE", yeah dude put a fking sign on it then if you dont want people to sit. i told him not to worry i've been riding for quite some time. he said "many people who drop bikes here are experienced riders." OOoo really???

then he told me "lean on it again i will call the police" hahahaha that made me laugh.

911: "911 what is your emergency"
jim: "yeah a guy keeps sitting my our bikes in our showroom"
911: "that's not an emergency you idiot"

how does cycleworld sell anything with this kind of condescending attitude? people there have no class. at gp bikes you can sit on ducatis however you like and no one will bother you. at cycleworld i sat on this cheap bike and jim went ballistic.

The first time I went to CWS I had an excellent experience. There was a short read-haired guy with a pony tail who went out of his way to help me pick the right helmet. I was so impressed that for my next shopping I went straight there. This time I had someone else help me, and while they weren't as dedicated, the level of service wasn't too bad.
Then after a year or so I went there again and it seemed like a whole different place. The front of the store was packed with bikes (some of them surprisingly expensive). The staff wasn't really too nice, but not outright rude either. It's not my favorite store and it wouldn't be my first choice to go shopping for gear (or other stuff).

I can't believe you left with the bike after noticing the turn signals had been swapped and LED's removed.

My experiences seem to be the opposite of most in this thread. I've been treated great every time I shop at cycleworld superstore and have always gotten great service and a great deal which is why I go back to them again and again over the past few years. I have been to GP bikes three times and every time I was treated like crap, given crappy service, and walked-out without buying anything because of it.

I think you have 15 days to return the bike since you bought it from a stealer...err dealer. Can anyone confirm/deny this?

You do know that CycleWorld at that location changed hands right ? they are not the same store as before ...

If this is the place I'm thinking of, I picked up a pair of boots "on sale" from the January bike show for $99. Saw them regular price at Royal a few weeks later for $89. My own fault for a bit of an impulse buy, but I did ask if they could do any better on the price and they attempted to make me feel like an *** for even trying. Never again, I highly suggest EVERYONE take their business elsewhere. I can truthfully say I'd rather pay more money and wait longer to deal with people like Pannon or Blue Streak Racing, but oddly enough they have even better prices!

I've never bought anything other than a visor from CWS, and I only stop in once in a blue moon just to browse and kill time. I would *not* buy a bike there, precisely because of stories like yours. Not only that, but the few times I have browsed their used bikes I get some real condescending behaviour from the sales people. Not that they're rude, but I can tell they're using lines on a chick they assume doesn't know anything about bikes. I don't even remember some of the specific comments, but some info one salesmen was giving me about some of the cruisers I *knew* was B.S. I held my tongue though. It wasn't like I was about to buy anything, I just like to butt-test bikes. And the prices are not exactly competitive, so what's the point?

+ 1 on GP instead. It's worth the trip out east.

I can't agree with you that GP bikes' employees treat people like crap. I've been there three times and its probably the most welcoming place out there. Cycleworld had ridiculously expensive bikes "on sale". I picked up my new bike at Motorsports Pickering for as much as an older model CWS had which already ate 8,000 MILES on the road. Its kind of a rip off.

PS. Jim's high voice makes sense now.

Thank-you for the reply as I had forgotten about this post and I would like to add something. Yes, those three times I was treated like crap. However, since that post I was there again to get something I was having trouble getting elsewhere and dealt with a fellow whose name was with a J (I don't recall what it was). He was very nice and helpful and he made me feel like I would want to deal with him again. But that was 1/4. Whereas every time I've dealt with Cycleworld I've been treated well. I know a lot of people have a low opinion of them, and that might be deserved (I trust a lot of the people who have low opinions of them) but I can only speak about what I have experienced.

I've only shopped there once this past weekend where I went and bought some motorcycle boots for my safety course. Everyone there seemed very welcoming, even though it was 15 minutes before closing time, they were still very patient with my lack of experience and knowledge concerning boot type and fit. They are a bit pricier relative to other competitors, but the convenience of the location and longer hours made up for it. It's surprising to see so many negative reviews, but I am only sharing my 1 experience with them.

I always go there for gear, the staff are great and the prices difference does make up for the location. The mechanic is great as well and friendly to chat with. The parts guy have little patience but extremely knowledgable and helpful. The dude in the show room sales is a complete idiot. I was a brand new noob and didn't know much about bikes when I met him and he was such a moron that I vowed to never give him my business. He treated me as a total idiot who is wasting his time when all i needed was some education, and I was ready to put the down payment that day. All I said was I would like to see a Honda shadow and sit on one, he said which kind and I said any since I never sat on one, then impatiently told me Honda shadow is an umbrella for many models and that I have to tell him which one. Then I politely told him that I do not know any difference and asked him to recommend a bike for a noob. Then he pointed to a row of bikes and said here are the shadows. Why did he have to break my balls if the answer to my question was that easy?
