Saw a custom Grom yesterday. Anyone seen one of these yet? Owner let me snap some pics and said I could post some. Very cool imo. What would you call this? Streetfighter? Lights look nice too.

Looks slammed, didja sit on it?

Is that a single cylinder engine? Perhaps a project from a 250/300 Honda?

It's the stock Single 125cc engine.

I have a 2014 Grom in red, I've only seen 1 other Grom on the streets in person. They are out there though. Somewhere.

There's at least 5 or 6 in my 'hood. All heatscores though, imo, with full stunting setups.
Yes. Stock engine. Stretched swingarm. Yes slammed. No, not because the fat guy sat on it.

wonder if the parts cost more than the bike? :p

Kinda neat alternative to a scoot in my books (though i still kinda want a scoot)

According to the owner, yes. Similar $$ as a pimped Ruckus.

They were pretty pricey IIRC. $3500? Fun bike, but a lot of coin for what could be a 250/300 money on sale.

They're not made in China. While you pay a bit more, the people who built it don't dream of suicide or clean air. That's got to be worth something. The worker will to live surtax?

How much difference can the size of the engine make in price?

I'd like to see one come out with a 250 or 300 engine. I'd pay extra for it.

Then again, I paid $4500 for a 4 year old 125 that was over $9000 new.

There are several aftermarket BB engines available for the Grom. Most of them are direct bolt on motors that use the stock wiring etc. hondagrom.net is the best place for all things Grom. I am on their forum as I am considering a Grom come spring. The biggest direct bolt on engine I've heard of for the Grom is a Finbro 183cc. They are pretty hot little motors apparently. There have been a few crazies who have swapped in a CBR 250 motor, but it is a lot of work. Personally I say if you're buying a Grom, buy it for what it is and not what you can Frankenstein it to be. Once broken in the Grom will do 105km/h in stock form. (A few km/h less depending on the size of the rider) The bike will happily cruise at 80-85km/h all day according to those on the site. To me that is plenty for an in town bike or even for rides out of town in the country as long as you're not in a hurry. Honda designed these things knowing they will spend most of their life at WOT so for me, I wouldn't want to monkey with the reliability of the Honda motor just for a little extra speed.

What I meant by my comment was the average buyer looking in the 3500 price point may pony up a few more bucks for the 300.

It's a great bike, don't get me wrong. However, it seems to be the epitome of novelty.

I wouldn't suggest buying any bike for anything beyond what it is since it's next to impossible to get legit insurance on a modified vehicle, especially one with an engine swap (and especially for more power).

Yup, built by MiniMotoLab. Builds and manufactures parts for both the grom and honda ruckus. Top notch work and would be open to working on other bikes as well. Super easy going guy, give him a call with any questions
