Custom ear plugs

I got http://www.decibullz.com for Christmas and was greatly disappointed. I don't think there's enough material to fill my ear properly.

I bought two packs of

But I haven't made them yet.

I tried making my own decibullz type headphones with the make-your-own earplug kits, but they never worked very well. I think the weakness is that they still have a relatively large hole going straight into your ear with nothing blocking it except the plastic of the headphone speaker. They fit great, but they didn't block sound very well at all.

I tried a pair of these last summer and I was pleasantly surprised at how well they work. The sound quality leaves something to be desired, specifically the bass. For that reason they're not the best for music but they're quiet enough that I can listen to talk radio, podcasts, or GPS directions comfortably. Even on the highway my phone only needs to be at max 1/2 volume and its easy to understand everything that's being said.

The music, while not great, is still a better experience than listening to nothing-or cranking up standard headphones until your ears bleed. You can also buy a pack of the orange plugs separately so when they start to get gross and lose their elasticity, you can pull them off and replace them.

I'll definitely be buying another pair.

So I finally made the Radians and they have the possibility to be great. I should have bought a couple more packs, lol. But now the money I'm in to it, I should have just went for semi professional ones.

After making the Radians I realize that the decibulz are crap because the material turns rock hard, whereas the Radians stay just a tiny bit softer than rock hard.

I also have the plugfones. I haven't tried them under a helmet, but they do stick out quite a bit. I used them at work and I think the "build" quality is pretty crappy. The one side is perfect, while the other side just doesn't really get a decent seal. And spray is right, there is NO bass at all, so absolute garbage for music.

Did you get the foam ones or the silicon ones? The foam ones you can adjust how far in the speaker sits, it might help the seal a bit. Don't think there is anything that can be done about the bass, I think it has to do with the odd cone shape of the speakers.

I have the silicone ones.

The foam ones are so easy to DIY. http://lifehacker.com/5347245/make-comfortable-noise-isolating-earbuds-for-less-than-a-dollar

I made them and they work pretty decent. The only issue I had was sometimes the foam would stay in my ear.

I might have to give that a try. I have a pair of $30 headphones with good sounds and my wife has lots of those foam earplugs laying around.

My expectation would be they suffer from the same problem of having a large hole with nothing blocking it except the speaker. That being said, I haven't tried this yet. The nice thing about the foam plugfones is the speaker is really thin and long, and the only thing sticking out the back of the foam is a very thin cord.
