Current least terrible wireless plan with data?

The best plans (outside of some corporate plans) are available to current customers through their retentions departments. If you go on redflagdeals, I think there's a thread for retentions plans that others are getting for each of the big companies. Advertised plans always blow in comparison

For reference, my plan through Fido retentions
250 daytime
unlim eve/we from 5
unlim incoming
unlim cdn ld
cd/iphone voicemail
6gb data
unlim text, etc.
$55 plus tax

How do I get that ? :)

I came accross with very good feedback from Koodoo customers. Almost too good to be true. Wonder if I should switch..

Koodo is Telus, but they have friendlier Customer Service Reps. They want to appeal to the 'hip' and young crowd.

I was watching sports and one time I didn't flick away during a break and there was a commercial about the monopoly that Canadian telecoms have... paid for by the government. There is no point voting with my vote for change but I voted with my wallet long ago to go with Wind. Also, Wind gave $5 for each plan added to the account, so I got a plan, then my brother got a plan and we save $5.

Wind is great if you don't leave major cities. I'm a boring bum that rarely leaves the house and Wind still wouldn't meet my needs...

its 2013.... i do not mind paying for quality technology as in cellphone data. I couldnt live without LTE... love it!! Wind is doodoo... you save what $20 a month for crappy coverage and slow data.

I can do without LTE as long as my data connection is actually staying connected, heh. That's easy to make happen with a few terminal commands. The speed itself is plenty. If I can stream in HD, which I can without LTE, that's enough for me. But paying extra for coverage outside of their small areas just doesn't work for me.

Have you used the service first hand?

I save over $40/mth for the closest comparable plan from the Big 3.
Also, with the upgrade to HSPA+ towers that's happened (and continuing to roll out), the average speeds have almost doubled, although not LTE (but unless you're an uber media mogul or IT aficionado that needs connectivity all the time) it's more than fast enough. It's as fast as most peoples light-high speed at home. No issues watching Netflix in HD without stream lag.

The only advantage Robellus has is the greater infrastructure reach. Considering most people aren't traveling salesmen anymore, this is becoming less of a point. But you get what's best for you and are comfortable paying. I just don't feel you get the level of service from the big3 for the money.

Call Fido and tell them you want to quit to go with Wind or whoever, they'll switch you to retentions. Bargain from there.

I have actually, my sister had it and compared with my rogers and the LTE it was night and day!! Plus I have a 6gb rogers plan so I am a stream whore. Plus I only pay $60 for 6gb and everything else unlimited so I would never switch to wind for even a savings of $30 a month.

My 6GB is only $30 although I pay more for everything else.

Not saying LTE isn't nice to have, it's just not necessary. I'd still trade my non-LTE Note2 for an LTE model but I'd also trade my gf's LTE GS3 for a non-LTE GS3, heh. Different requirements /desires for different people. I definitely hate that sometimes my phone will sit there for like 5 minutes before it figures out how to get the data going. Although there's an app that kind of fixes it and other ways to keep it alive but it's annoying.

Do you not ever go anywhere on the weekends? Explore the country side, small towns, etc? While I do travel all over the place for work I also go all over Ontario on my weekends and that's when coverage is most important.

I do. When I'm outside of the 'zone' the phone automatically roams on Rogers. Wherever Rogers has signal, so do I. Simple as that. I just control the costs. I've never had an issue making a phone call, from anywhere, at anytime.

Does it not cost extra when you're roaming? Especially for data? I have the phone for data so paying out the nose to use it out of town is silly. If I wanted data for in town only I'd just use the wifi I already have at home, at work, at at most of the businesses I frequent.

I don't need data when I roam, but that's me. I use it for voice and texting. Costs $0.20/min to call anyone, and $0.15/to send a text. They're coverage is expanding quite well and only when I go an hour or so out of the city am I really roaming. Back with Rogers, it was a lot more when I left the city, even though they didn't have official 'zones' back then.
I'm used to their roaming structure, pay before and zones, because that's how it was when I was living in Europe for a bit and I liked it.

The service is not for everyone but they're not as bad as people claim. I've had more issues when I was with Fido/Rogers. I vote with my wallet and get service that best suits my needs, I implore everyone do the same. The best 'bang for your buck' without having to argue and fight with retentions, sits with Wind Mobile for the average consumer.

Have you thought about being a Wind representative?? :D

Update - for now, Fido did end up opening a deal that was good enough for me. They are currently advertising it - they are offering 2x the data on their standard plans and 10% off if you bring a phone. I didn't want to buy a new phone right now to go with Wind, so I did that. Probably common knowledge now, but Fido and Rogers SIMs used to be interchangeable on locked phones, not anymore. So when I phoned up Rogers to unlock the phone, I wasted an hour talking to their retentions department. The best they would do was $75 before tax, when I told them repeatedly I was going to Fido for $49. I got the 1 GB of data I wanted, more minutes than I'll ever need, and for some stupid reason visual voicemail with Fido is $4 but was a blistering $20 with Rogers, and it's probably the exact same stupid infrastructure on their side.

So it's an improvement for me, and the Fido guy was helpful and light on the BS, but I still hate Canadian wireless companies
