Craft Beer: What are you drinking now??

Kentucky Bastard is absolutely fantastic.

I had one in Vegas a couple weeks ago. I wasn't underwhelmed, it was really great, and I like saisons in general.

I have a bottle of Muskoka Double Chocolate Cranberry Stout (Winter Beard) beside me right now. Quite decent, if a little thin even warmed up a bit. However, I am waiting with bated breath for Bolshevik Bastard and Kentucky Bastard from Nickel Brook, as well as Juggernaut Bourbon Stout coming out from Stone City ales. I am on a racer diet but on the weekend there is no way I can deny myself a fair quantity of these. Wicked good.

You can find me on untappd here, if you want to compare / share: https://untappd.com/user/Sol-ip-sis-tik

Lots to look forward to. I more recently found saisons and have really enjoyed the good ones. It's not surprising as ales are my personal fave. Especially belgian's (lol). My original deep dive was stouts and porters and they are still big for me. I haven't been very impressed by the ON microbreweries yet (other than Bellwoods). They do middle of the road good for the style (though it's nice to see them now making the style and doing more different stuff), but I've been able to consistently source and get many of the best stouts and porters in the world. And I can't go back now, lol. For example, I have some Flydog Brewery Gonzo Imperial Porter and Dogfish Head World Wide Stout in the house. Those are seriously amazing. I'd guess you've tried them..?. The WWS is 18% alcohol! When in the GTA it's easy and worth it to make trips down to the 1000 beer store in Buffalo. Can you say awesome selection, lol. Between them and the boutique beer importers I've got relationships with I've been in beer heaven for a very long time.

I'll check out the link. Thx

You Went there to get it?

I wish. It was imported by a boutique beer broker in the city and available back when I purchased it. Haven't seen it available again, and for a couple years at least.

I haven't tried either WWS or Gonzo. Stuff to look forward to next time I am in Watertown. Will definitely check them out.

Really happy with Stone City Ales here in Kingston and Nickel Brook, I think those two and occassionally Sawdust City are my favourite micro breweries right now. Stone City does a circuit of different beers almost every week so they can be a little hit or miss, but they're mostly hits for me - and keeps me on my toes.

I have a bottle of Unibroue 17 to open tonight, and then I am pretty much dry except maybe one or two beer a week (if that) until next summer. Really want to get some race wins in 2017 for all the effort I've put in. :)

The Unibroue 17 is nice, though very familiar to those who know the Unibroue taste profile. I also have a few in my collection waiting. I also have La Resolution by them which is nice and likewise less common (still has that consistent and unique Unibroue taste, which comes from the yeast strain they use)

Those two stouts I mentioned are pretty hard to find. Here are some other great ones to try and can be easier to find. Some crazy BA scores there and I've been able to buy and have them regularly. I'll try to remember to post when I pull'em out and have a drink.

St Ambroise Oatmeal Stout, easy to find, in lcbo, and really great if found on tap. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/194/2704/

Stone Russian Imperial Stout. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/147/1160/

Rogue Shakespeare oatmeal stout. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/132/56973/

Dieu Du Ciel Peche Mortel. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1141/10325/

Dieu Du Ciel Aphrodisiaque. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1141/10330/

Had all of the above. Great selections.
The unibrou 17 is in the lcbo right now.
I bought 5, and a case of delirium... : D

Yup, all of them can usually be found without too much effort and are great.

I enjoy the tremens, I really enjoy the nocturnum (having both fairly regularly and currently in my collection). Either can be found on tap at times at the best ON craft beer pubs, and are even better. What did you get?

Got the tremens.
One of my top 5 faves ever.
If its on tap where I am, it's always my 1st choice

Tremens isn't a top beer style for me. Similar to a tripel imo. You probably like tripels a lot too?

While tripels are not one of my favourite styles (love the doubles and quads), I do still enjoy them. Tripels are very good on both hot summer days and cold winter nights. The tripels that have jumped out to me most include the Westmalle Trappist Tripel and the Tripel Karmeliet. Both are amazing. And I still have some in my collection.

Here's another tripel similar to nocturnum that is very very good and very easy to find. Most people do not realize just how good it is since it is so commonly found. Unibroue La Fin Du Monde. Crazy BA rating. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/22/34/. I almost always have it in the fridge. Had an oversize bottle last night.

A darker more robust option in a similar vein is the Unibroue Maudite. Again, most people do not realize just how good it is and how highly rated it is. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/22/33/. Again, I pretty much have this on hand all the time; it's inexpensive and found at the local liquor store.

Maudite and La Fin du Monde were my gateways to craft beer. Love them, and will drink them at any point over the swill that major producers sell.

They were early gateway beers for me as well. And I've come full circle back to them to truly appreciate what they offer. I use them like others do with the major labels; pretty much always stocked in the fridge.

I thought the BA ratings would surprise many people here so I mentioned them.

Funnily enough I am not a dubbel and tripple fan.
My preferred style is IPA's and IIPA's.

Dubbel and tripel ales are very different styles from each other.

Try la fin du monde if you haven't as it is cheap and you may like it a lot. It doesn't have the fruity undertones of nocturnum but is similar otherwise imo (and is a similar style).

IPAs are the most popular craft beer style in NA by far. Unfortunately, it is my least favourite style. I guess I swim against the current at times, lol.

There is one IPA that I do enjoy a lot and have it regularly stocked in my fridge. A great summer and winter beer. I love the grapefruit taste versions and this one is awesome... plus Canadian. Red racer IPA from BC. Check out the awesome BA reviews and rating. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/10321/49058/. Really good and compares well to the dogfish head 90 minute IPA for example. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/64/2093/.

I've been to unibrou in mtl, and red racer in bc. Had samples of all their beers.
When visiting the west coast, parallel 49 is always one of my favorite stops.
Last xmas me and 2 friends polished off the 6L bottle of maudite that the lcbo had for sale.
...it was a fun afternoon to say the least.

Nice to see the beer incorporation into trips.

6 L of maudite is like having over 14 regular Canadian beer (5%), each. :)

Tonight I opened up a Left Hand Brewing Milk Stout. Not new to me, but fairly rare. Another beer one should not drink cold. Much better after warming up. I really enjoy milk stouts; they have a sweet simple-sugar finish as part of the profile, which complements stouts beautifully. The Left Hand Brewing Milk Stout represents nicely on that front, though it is very light on the carbonation. It is more noticeable when cold so warm that puppy up. That lack of carbonation accounts for some of the rating imo. Many prefer more carbonation. But if you enjoy light carbonation or just something different, this is a great beer. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/418/3434/

Drank the Stone 20th anniversary Citracado.
Very delicious. Wish I'd bought 2, ...or 10

I've been having a few Rogue Shakespeare oatmeal stout bottles. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/132/56973/
It starts a little thin compared to imperial versions but has great flavours and complexity from mid way through the finish. I find this beer should be drank more warm than most people realize. I tend to finish drinking a significant portion of this beer at room temp, starting not a whole lot cooler. Too cool and the flavours are suppressed and it just tastes thin overall.

I also opened up a large bottle of La Trappe Quadrupel, one of many I've been cellaring for a while. One of my most favorite beers. Love the trappist beers (made by monks in monasteries). I've had beer from the original 7 trappist breweries and La Trappe is worth seeking for some unique flavours. So much going on and this beer has some banana in it as well as in the smell. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/184/1402/

I also found and picked up 14 bottles of Duchesse De Bourgogne. An awesome beer and a great Belgian representation of the flanders red ale style. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/641/1745/

This year's Kentucky Bastard is insane. It says 14.5% on the bottle but my experience with one bottle says it could very likely be higher. Pro tip: put 2/3 cup in pancakes or waffles as a substitute for milk... they turn out fluffier and the vanilla + coffee really adds to them. :D :D :D

I opened my 2013 vintage Amsterdam Double Tempest last week. Bottled at 13%abv, but after 3 years it tasted around 16%.
I had a glass, the misses had a glass, then a glass went into the beef stew we made for dinner.
Absolutely delicious.

Past week I've been drinking GLB Karma Citra. ...and some piss water Presidente my buddy brought back from the Dominican
