The best time to have shutdown was like an year ago, but the second best time is today. Shut it all down, cause these half assed measures aren't working. As for, would I snitch if I know? No. Only because I hate passive aggressive **** like that, but they will be confronted and if they can't see the reason then all bets are off I guess.
My anecdotal experience with the 'Rona:
I was in Australia in Jan 2020, people were already beginning to start talking about the Corona. Was following the F1 chatter if Melbourne is a go or no go. I figured, it'll most likely be a no go as I heard from some higher ups that it'll be extremely hard to go through with it. Ended up in Malaysia in Feb and I can already see the panic kind of settling in and thought, hmmm, time to look for a save harbour and get the heck back home.
I did have a week of off-road jungle riding setup in Cambodia for mid Feb, thought I'd see if I can do it. It was the same time that one of the cruise ship without a port was finally allowed in by the Cambodian government. Landed in Phnom Penh and things were a bit muted but still nothing to panic about, had a stupid ass flu and didn't know if it was covid or not, but didn't get any crazy cough or any of the crazy symptoms, but I just spent the 5 days in the hotel without going outside, since can't take any chances. Cancelled the ride, c'est la vie.
Booked a flight back to KL and thought I should get some masks (This was a big deal for me. I have this irrational anger when I saw Asians in masks in Australia before all this started. I don't know why), went to a local pharmacy and it should be like a dollar for a pack since they're everywhere in Asia. Nope! The price for a bag of masks with 5 pieces were selling for $30. Was told that all the masks were bought by Chinese and sent to China (good times). At the airport in Phnom Penh, they asked if I visited China, the answer was no, and I was allowed to leave.
KL wasn't too bad, my flight was booked to be back in Canada for May so had to change it to early March. Only decent one was SIN to Abu Dhabi to NYC. Landed in Singapore, probably my 50th time and after the flight landed, it's taxing for like 30 minutes, where we thought the dude was driving us back to Malaysia. They transformed some old terminal for all incoming flights from Asian countries, got out of the plane to some dystopian surreal setting. Guys in white coverall and full face masks and everyone is being questioned about the last two weeks and the usual temperatures and bio data screening.
Finally cleared customs and had to take a bus back to the normal terminal and that's when it hit me. Changi airport is one of the busiest in the world and it was ghost town. Like no one was there, checked into the lounge and figured man, this is not going to be like sars, but hoping and praying it is. Same deal in Abu Dhabi, but there were much more people and somewhat of a normal feeling.
Landed in JFK and it's like business as usual, no one cared and I was asked by my gate guy when I checked in to my flight Toronto, how was Asia and what's all this about a flu? Told him that it was crazy down there and do his best to stay safe. Landed in Pearson and it was like a flea market on a hot summer day. That was March 7th 2020. NOW THEY WANT TO CLOSE THE BORDERS AND RESTRICT MOVEMENTS AND PUT QUARANTINE IN PLACE? Because of variants? Get the F outta here!
If you don't know how to lead then at least learn to follow properly.
