Covid snitch thread

If you want to have a party, be prepared to pay the price. If you want to open your business when you shouldn't, be prepared to pay the price.

I don't mind the tip lines, I don't see that as a slippery slope thing -- it already happens. Grouchy neighbors call about kids making noise at pool parties, barking dogs, cars parked overnight on the street. The Uxbridge GO train has a vigilante who reports drunks at each shop when they leave the train.

Be stupid, expect to be treated like you are stupid.

Why open the door . They have no right to enter unless you let then in .
Thirty people go into your neighbours house with cases of beer. What is your reaction?

Sure as hell I’d never let them in the house.

EDIT: but if I happen to get caught then I guess it’s pay to play.

I seen that on Queen Street once, they just robbed a beer truck right in the beer store parking lot.

I think if you actually have an anonymous tip line, charges that stick, and actual consequences for rule breakers (civilians and businesses) you’d see results. Every municipality is going to be short on cash, and while I have ticketing for revenue generation....it’s an easy target.

But all levels have to be on the same page, and the ones handing out the tickets must have the power to enforce the rules, and the judges can’t take a lenient approach.

Until then....fake half assed lockdowns for another year while vaccines get to everyone.
Good point.

It's odd that most people (I hope) would report a bank robbery, car crash etc. I have no problem with reporting a drunk driver and have done so.

Suddenly reporting a pandemic life threatening event is snitching. Is it that maybe the snitch doesn't consider it that dangerous?

Few people would shrug off a neighbour firing off 22LR target shots in the typical suburban back yard but Covid isn't that dangerous. So we rationalize. We don't want to snitch on neighbours or friends.

The downside is that if we snitch and the offender only gets a slap on the wrist they could come back with a vengeance.

My wifes brother got a visit from the swat team as a teenager with a bb gun in his backyard in scarberia. Scared the crap out of him. Dont know who called.

Mind my own business . Just like when I see people wearing their masks wrong or not wearing them . I'll leave the policing to the police .

I'd let the bylaw officer who lives across the street deal with it. Most bylaw officers won't crap in their own neighborhood- ours will.

I mind my own business and go about my day.

Jesuz you guys getting me to land on the same side of the teeter totter with PFBMGD? Granted he is way out at the far end away from the fulcrum.....

Live your own life. Hard enough to manage the choices in 1 life let alone trying to make choices for others too.

If I dont like a store or their policy then I shop somewhere else.

Someone not wearing a mask? I dont care unless they come into my personal space.

The power and responsibility of the individual.

Where have you been the last 9 months?
It's an old person problem. Let them take care of themselves. REALLY!
I meant those that are still capable of it. There are quite a few geriatrics that are still self-sufficient. Now that you mention it though, when this came out 9 months ago it was blatantly obvious (from Italy's outbreak) that it almost exclusively affects seniors, yet, here the gov't decided it was prudent to close down schools and leave seniors homes unchecked.

It’s easier to close schools than deal with LTC homes. Govt always goes for easiest points to score.

JT has shown consistently, same as DF, that they are willing to do the least possible to provide the optics of doing something.

Half assed measures for all and a hope and a prayer.

Problem with that theory is that person not wearing their mask properly infects a coworker, who happens to be a friend of your neighbour and infects them while having a beer in their garage (or whatever) after work, and then unknowing you and your neighbour are talking on your boulevard one evening while putting the garbage out or whatever and he unknowingly infects you. And then you go to the grocery store and unknowingly infect someome's elderly relative...who then goes and dies.

Meanwhile all the other infected people in that chain go on to infect others as well.

This is how it spreads. It's not just that one person not wearing a mask properly infecting necessarily just one other person.....they multiply as things go on.

Last weekend I took my son bicycle riding at Centennial Park, so he could burn some energy (selfishly so he'd go to bed easily)

We passed a parked police cruiser at the bottom of the ski hill (to prevent people from tobogganing)
I heard about this. Four security guards and a police cruiser to prevent kids from tobogganing on a closed ski hill? Ontario lost it. The conspiracy theories are starting to sound real. It's going to be a year soon. No vaccine in sight. One thing is clear. You can't keep telling people to stay locked inside two weeks at a time for a year with no end in sight. People want parks and a hill to take their kids outside. Ontario should have realized that and worked out a plan to give people a way to recreate outside. Instead they put a cop and four security guards at centennial.

The best time to have shutdown was like an year ago, but the second best time is today. Shut it all down, cause these half assed measures aren't working. As for, would I snitch if I know? No. Only because I hate passive aggressive **** like that, but they will be confronted and if they can't see the reason then all bets are off I guess.

My anecdotal experience with the 'Rona:
I was in Australia in Jan 2020, people were already beginning to start talking about the Corona. Was following the F1 chatter if Melbourne is a go or no go. I figured, it'll most likely be a no go as I heard from some higher ups that it'll be extremely hard to go through with it. Ended up in Malaysia in Feb and I can already see the panic kind of settling in and thought, hmmm, time to look for a save harbour and get the heck back home.

I did have a week of off-road jungle riding setup in Cambodia for mid Feb, thought I'd see if I can do it. It was the same time that one of the cruise ship without a port was finally allowed in by the Cambodian government. Landed in Phnom Penh and things were a bit muted but still nothing to panic about, had a stupid ass flu and didn't know if it was covid or not, but didn't get any crazy cough or any of the crazy symptoms, but I just spent the 5 days in the hotel without going outside, since can't take any chances. Cancelled the ride, c'est la vie.

Booked a flight back to KL and thought I should get some masks (This was a big deal for me. I have this irrational anger when I saw Asians in masks in Australia before all this started. I don't know why), went to a local pharmacy and it should be like a dollar for a pack since they're everywhere in Asia. Nope! The price for a bag of masks with 5 pieces were selling for $30. Was told that all the masks were bought by Chinese and sent to China (good times). At the airport in Phnom Penh, they asked if I visited China, the answer was no, and I was allowed to leave.

KL wasn't too bad, my flight was booked to be back in Canada for May so had to change it to early March. Only decent one was SIN to Abu Dhabi to NYC. Landed in Singapore, probably my 50th time and after the flight landed, it's taxing for like 30 minutes, where we thought the dude was driving us back to Malaysia. They transformed some old terminal for all incoming flights from Asian countries, got out of the plane to some dystopian surreal setting. Guys in white coverall and full face masks and everyone is being questioned about the last two weeks and the usual temperatures and bio data screening.

Finally cleared customs and had to take a bus back to the normal terminal and that's when it hit me. Changi airport is one of the busiest in the world and it was ghost town. Like no one was there, checked into the lounge and figured man, this is not going to be like sars, but hoping and praying it is. Same deal in Abu Dhabi, but there were much more people and somewhat of a normal feeling.

Landed in JFK and it's like business as usual, no one cared and I was asked by my gate guy when I checked in to my flight Toronto, how was Asia and what's all this about a flu? Told him that it was crazy down there and do his best to stay safe. Landed in Pearson and it was like a flea market on a hot summer day. That was March 7th 2020. NOW THEY WANT TO CLOSE THE BORDERS AND RESTRICT MOVEMENTS AND PUT QUARANTINE IN PLACE? Because of variants? Get the F outta here!

If you don't know how to lead then at least learn to follow properly.

Read the first page or two of the Coronavirus thread and see how attitudes have changed. Some saw the risk, others, not so much.

I am well aware of how it all works.

But life is not so black and white.

I have been keeping my social circle to the bare minimum for the last year. And I do struggle with all the people who make the opposing choices.

Do you call 911 when you see a 20 km over speeder on the highway?

Do you stop to lecture the guy standing outside the building smoking?

Or pre-covid go to a bar and call the police everytime someone had a beer and walks out to the parking lot?

I would hope not. Just like how I see the example that was provided about the neighbour with friends and beers.

I would mutter under my breath that they are idiots.

The neighbour who just flew back from the UK and has his 30 buddies over for beers when he is supposed to be in isolation....

The problem is exponential growth. The 20 over speeder will not likely lead to an explosion of similar behavious resulting in many deaths. One person's selfush decisions can literally affect thousands with Corona. I'm not saying they should all be turned in, but it isnt nearly as simple as everyone looking out for themselves.
