There are some real stinkers in there. Somewhere between people not having any understanding of economics/business and business preying on their stupidity (like whole life insurance).
If you can't keep up with the mortgage and core buys the house and rents it back to you, cashflow will be more stable but monthly bill will be substantially higher than the bill you already couldn't afford.
Taking some of your rent to buy reits is idiotic. Give me cheaper rent with no reits. I'll buy them if I want to and have the money to.
"He added he gets “almost a call a week” from people who are being forced to sell their homes because they can’t keep up with mortgage payments, but can’t find a rental in the same neighbourhood. They are hoping the company can buy the home and rent it back to them.
Core’s plans also involve a scheme to create “tenant owners” by giving them back a portion of their rent through shares in its Real Estate Investment Trust, so that renters can build equity in the portfolio of homes the REIT owns, Hawtin added."
Remember ‘Household Finance’ the company that would get you in on a rent to own fridge or Color TV? Sure you rent it for 10yrs at 17% interest , but then in a decade when it’s almost cooked , you own it!!
Close second is the don’t pay a cent for two years on a new couch . But if you don’t pay it off 100% on due day the interest is retroactive for two years at 27% . Get in on that deal!!

Water heaters aren't much better. Predatory scum. To buy out the one that came with the house is over $1000. It is almost 10 years old and ready for the dumpster. Only way out is to buy it out at their crazy price or for them to agree it is beyond economical repair (which if they know you are leaving is a really high bar).

A friend's son and D-I-L were over their heads in debt so dad bailed them out providing they stopped buying stuff. The next time he visited them there was a new stereo. "We didn't buy it. We leased it"
We bought a sofa set early in our marriage, Brick don’t pay a cent for two yrs . Brick sells the loans to another party , we paid it of a week before due but I we didn’t our $2,200. couch set went to $3100. And kept climbing. Enough people miss the deadline that it’s a good business .

Not only the Brick, that happens with all store cards. Home Depot cards are the same… buy $3000 worth of lumber to build that deck 0% financing for 24 months*.
That 28% interest simply accrues, so if you haven’t paid 100% of your deferred balance be for the 24 mos is over a big interest charge appears on your statement. If it takes longer than 2 years to pay off the purchase, interest could be more than the purchase price.
My buddy's line is still true. Borrow for what you need and pay cash for what you want.
Too many people don't understand the difference between want and need.

I HATE paying CC interest but recently screwed up and lost track of a statement. Financially no biggie but a bottle of cheap wine didn't get purchased. Note to self: Clean up the office desk.

In yet another example of political stupidity, they did the press release and will work on the meat later. They hope to have criteria established by April with construction starting in the spring. Ummm? Nobody knows what the rules are until april and you expect shovels in the ground in the spring? That is hopeless. Either they are incompetent or intentionally misleading. It will be a miracle if there is a shovel in the ground in 2024.
The main industries in Cochrane are transportation, railway, tourism, and forestry. Marginal farming also exists around Cochrane. Think garlic. The further north it grows the better the flavour. Start your own stinking business.
