COVID-19 potential restrictions on riding?

Maybe for you riding is a high risk but I've got 55 years of road accident free riding that says otherwise.
So you do your thing and let others make their own decision without the carping. :coffee:
There's an attitude that should get us through this. Do your own thing and to ell with everyone else.

Works for a midland councilor.

Coun. Bill Gordon.

The Ward 2 representative

“The (government) has made a strong recommendation to stay home and only travel when it is essential, but we are not under a legal lockdown,” he noted.

“Until they put us under full lockdown and say you cannot drive your car; until they put checkpoints on the highways to stop people from coming up to their seasonal homes; until they actually take those steps, it is all legal and lawful to do. Even though they are recommending us not to, it’s still lawful.”

Car insurance companies will give customers back $800M in premiums

Allstate US is reducing vehicle insurance rates by 15% for April/May due to COVID. Just got off phone with Allstate Canada and they just received word this is applying to Canada division as well, they're just learning more on the criteria that needs to be met to get the automatic discounts. It sounds hopeful. Great for those with Motorcycle insurance as well, although I just removed the bikes from my policy because they were far less elsewhere. LOL.

So many people riding bicycles ( including distance ), shopping excursions, walking dogs, running, walking with a friend but keeping some distance .....no one is going to notice a rider ...I would say there were 5-6 riders I noticed in a 90 km loop.
Common sense should tell you to keep distance from others....not to sit home thumb twiddling.....unless you feel yourself accident prone ;)
Actually sitting at home thumb twiddling is exactly what common sense would dictate.

That is statistically true but the kill in the cure is that everyone's brain is wired differently, some from birth and others programmed afterwards. Nature vs nurture.

Decades ago my wife took an Outward Bound Wilderness course. Part of the course was a solo where each person was put on a separate island in a lake for a couple of days in a makeshift tent. To my wife it was the best part of the program. Most of the others were freaking out.

Some people can handle being in semi lock down and others not. My wife shuns FB but her sister has around 800 "Friends".

The important thing for those that choose to ride is having a plan B if curfews are put in place.

Having a house with a shop and some supplies I can hunker down for a while. If I was in a bachelor apartment I would be in rough shape. I cringe when I think of the cruise people in 12' X 12' inside cabins for 14 days.

Afternoon. I took my course last fall and I have access to my sister in law's bike . I am near Vic Pk and St. Clair. Is there anything illegal about my getting myself to the area in and around the Home Depot and practising various skills? I haven't found anything so far that refers to motorcycles .
Thanks.

(I am in health care but I usually drive...at least for now ?)

Nothing illegal about riding right now. Home depot may not like it and ask you to leave. That could get you a trespassing charge if you dont comply. Doing anything too exciting could get you a stunting charge.

If you're a newbie looking for a practice area I wouldn't recommend a retail parking lot during business hours. I'm not sure if you have any restrictions on your license such as night, passengers 400 series etc. The fringes of these lots may have a lot of winter crap as well.

Again if you're a newbie low speed falls are not uncommon so don't go alone just in case you or the bike need a hand getting up. It doesn't have to be another bike.

I would look for school parking lots if they're not chained. There is nothing illegal about you practicing but obviously too many people will get a crowd control fine.

Hta 172 applies on the road... not in a parking lot. As you stated, trespass to property act is the only possibility. There'd be a warning by an agent of the landlord, and if the rider didn't comply, it would be a TPA charge.
Warning=just leave.

My suggestion:
Find an empty school or mall parking lot.
I'd guess Home Depot is still open for curbside pickup. Best to not poke the bear.

You can catch a dangerous charge in a parking lot. It would be hard to pull that one though in an empty parking lot. Drifting in a full parking lot would probably be enough for cops to give you a criminal charge.

We use to go to the Oakville Go Station parking lot on a Saturday afternoon, set up a course with cones, and do laps. Cops would show up an hour or so later. Pack it up, boys. No harm, no foul.

So many bikes out yesterday that it's really tempting to go and find one again! LoL Mississauga Rd had lots of riders on it. Same for the highways and some side streets.

Quite sad that there MIGHT be the odd snow cloud / overnights below freezing in the nest 7-14 days that may undo all the cleaned tarmac from the rain this past week.

^ That doesn't make any sense. What difference does it make if you've gone to the store and picked up a child's toy or some other such thing that could be viewed as "non-essential" along with the groceries?

A bigger issue is that people use shopping as an excuse to get out of the house (which I can totally understand). Ok, I'll go to the grocer's this morning to buy one banana, and go again this afternoon to buy one litre of milk, and again this evening to buy one loaf of bread. They recommend buying a week's worth at a time.

There were loads of people in Nations Foodmart this morning and I can say for certain - not all for "essentials" whatever that might be.
People should be out keeping the economy going but practicing safe distance. There were even N95 masks for sale and cashiers were set back.
All the grocery stores we went by had long line ups with good separation outside the stores.
