Covered Bridge

Took a spin via backroads to the one and only covered bridge in Ontario. Yup, the bridge is still there and it is still covered. Thing is that in the attempt to restrict ingress, the "man" has cluttered the inside of the bridge with obstacles, thus ruining the experience of walking through.
Could they not have put external barriers to prevent vehicular access?
Nice quiet spot tho'!

It's 5min from my place. Beautiful spot. One of the main support beams has huge cracks in it. Engineers and financial types are trying to deal with it.

Yup in the last little bit, still closed to vehicles as of this week. It's struggled with structural issues off and on. Last covered bridge in Ontario I believe.

The "man" ????

Really, you object to "someone" trying to save the bridge from people who feel "entitled"?

Between this post and your human rights violation at the gas station I get the feeling you get annoyed easily.

obstacles?...what obstacles?...i was there this summer and rode through it no problem...i would post my picture, but they're always too large of a file and i don't know how to resize them...but yeah, no obstacles there...cool spot for sure...

Please don't mis-interpret my comment on the bridge. I totally agree that it should be restricted to pedestrians. However there is a better way of doing this rather than cluttering the inside with cement blocks and steel fencing. Do that outside of the bridge at the approach.
As for your comment about me getting annoyed, lets focus on the topic and leave personal assessments out of the discussion.

Thank you.

Was there today and there is a notice that only pedestrians and cyclists are allowed, no vehicles.
The whole truth and nothing but the truth

Problem solved. Thanks for the reply.

now I get it, the fencing inside is prolly there to guard around where the damage is and where they are doing repairs... thx for clarifying!

I've ridden through that bridge a few times. Last time was June 2018. I hope they find the funds to repair it.IMG_1340.jpg

There are numerous covered bridges in Ohio but few open to vehicular traffic. Some are risky to walk through.

Exterior barricades instead of internal would make for a better walk through but when you go to take that exterior picture afterwards it wouldn't be as nice.

I don't see why they can't find the funds, they gov has been spending tons on infrastructure, probably on things which doesn't need fixing, this would be a good use case for the funds.
I've also rode over it, interesting area.

The Mennonite bakeries in the area are the real must see places. Sittlers in Conestogo is the best. Don't go if you are afraid of gluten, or are vegan. Ingredients on a lot of their products reads..... Flour, sugar, lard.

flour, sugar lard aka flavour.

Non-trivial structural fault.

Is that all? That looks like you could throw jacks under there, unbolt those supports and throw a new beam in. The hardest part would be anchoring the jacks into something

Therein lies the problem. The river bed in that area is comprised of constantly changing sediment. The locals want the GRCA to modify the sediment a bit downstream from the bridge to prevent another big ice jam this winter. NOT gonna happen.
It's sad, but the bridge's days are numbered.

So easy an internet forum could do it! That was hilarious.
