Course of action - seller ripped me off

All this for $137? Jeez, just go out and buy the parts, $137 is not THAT big of a deal.

It definitely could be worse, but as like he said, he is now in doubt as to what else could go wrong if the bike was not properly cared for my the previous owner. I like to know my bike is dependable and mechanically sound when I hit the road to get around, and even more so when I go on a trip.

At least you found out now, rather then out in the middle of no where, or away on a trip and have your plans all completely screwed up. It is bad timing though, right before a long weekend that is supposed to be pretty nice weather wise.

the sensor disconected and that part was broken just on a 5 min inspection of the bike, theres no telling what else is wrong once i pull the carbs off.

137 bucks may not be alot of money but its also the downtime on the bike, i have to wait untill atleast Wednesday for the part so thats atleast 2 days not being able to ride to and from work (my only vehicle during the summer) and this weekend (had a trip with my girlfriend planed so this sucks for that reason as well)

just found out that the part is backordered untill late august so there goes a month of riding.

thats why im ****ing ******

Check online suppliers based in the US, they may have stock on hand. BikeBandit is one, there's another that I've used but can't remember the name of.

ya i cant even find a cheap set of carbs anywhere in ontario

Plenty of people have given you ways to get this fixed for cheap. Either listen to them, or stop whining.

buddy, i know what has to be done. im trying to figure out a way to get parts this weekend, i dont have the option to let it sit for a week and a half waiting for the part. if i cant find a set of carbs or the part this weekend then i will order it. im not whining im trying to solve my problem promptly.

Well, then you're SOL.

Even if you find a carburetor from a junk yard, they may or may not be open on the weekend. That's one problem.

Second, if you order this part from Kahuna or any other dealer, it will take at least 3 business days for them to get it. So you won't get it this weekend.

If you order from BikeBandit, or CheapCycleParts, it takes them either 3 or 5 (can't remember) business days for them to get the part from Kawasaki, THEN they ship it to you. If you use a place like US Address Inc and get it shipped stateside, that means you can maybe get the part within 7 business days. If you ship it to Canada, it will take more like 10-15 business days.

Point is, you won't be able to fix it this weekend unless you get lucky and find it at a junkyard or from someone. Looks like your bike will have to sit for a week and a half regardless. Might as well start tearing it apart, and figuring out what else is wrong. And if you're already ordering parts, might as well figuring out what else needs to be swapped or replaced and get those too. On a 5 year old bike that hasn't been properly maintained, it would make a lot of sense. Do it properly now, and you'll enjoy years of bliss with the bike.

Also, isn't the ZZR600 just a rebadged 99-02 ZX6R or something like that? I likely have the model wrong, but find out, that may be a way to find your spare parts.

Unless he specifically put no implied warranty on the bill of sale you have legal action.
But come on, you diagnosed the problem and it's gonna cost you less than $200.00

i know all of this, but if anyone had carbs lying around or knew any salavage shops that may have them, they can chime in.

even if i order from kahuna its backordered untill mid august so thats not even remotely an option. if i could find a buddy to drive me to kitchener ill grab a set of carbs from zdeno. but that looks like its not going to happen.

i dont care about the money, il pay friggin 500 bucks if it meens ill be back on the road this weekend, i just need it fixed, i dont care that its gonna cost me less then 200. the time missed is worth way more then the parts needed in my opinion. i dont have a cage to drive around right now.

Wrong, private sales are simply buyer beware. Even if he didn't say there were no warranties it still doesn't amount to ****. The only recourse would be if a mechanical issue was related to a shop and a safety or if the vehicle wad stolen.

When you buy private you are buying from an individual not a business. Warranties do not exist.

You will spend far more than this on future maintenance or even just as much changing fluids etc.

:)

So aside from all the comments & advice about parts cost & shipping time...if it's your only transportation right now, based on your original post, can't you ride it anyway, just stay under 6,000RPM? Not trying to be wise-guy, just thinking that you won't be breaking any speed records, but if it's that or no transportation?...

you did better than my friend.

bought a ride, had it test driven, engine grenaded a day after bought.

i dont know how the guy managed to get the needle to stay in because i cant get it to stay it just falls out,

when i button it up, it starts but once you give it throttle it dies, so the needle isnt staying in place.

i think he glued it in place or something, the plastic on the bottom looks different then the others. so i figure i should just leave it before i personally do damage to the bike, and i am going to look at the rest of the carbs now just to make sure im not going to get anymore suprises,

In the worst case you can run on 3 cylinders for now.

is that really the best idea lol? i would be riding it for atleast a half hour a day to and from work, until i sorted the part out. riding for that long on 3 cylinders feels like a bad idea

If it's not the first or the last cylinder, it may not be too bad (it will stay hot)... You can hear about cases when certain cylinders are not firing and the engines don't get destroyed, so I'm guessing that it would not ruin the engine, but if you don't want to do it, then certainly don't (or convince yourself that it's safe).

Okay ive had problems with the whole diaphragm assembly on one of my zx7s before. The rubber part can be fixed if its just a minor tear. However since you're just looking for the slide itself im guessing the rubber is fine. I managed to source mine out from this really small shop out in orangeville. Place is called proformance cycle. From google the number is the same 519-942-2082 .

Give them a shout. They MIGHT just have it. I paid $25 for the whole assembly btw BUT im not telling you that you're gonna get it for that price. I dont know the guys personally but i was desperate for my part so i called them up. Worth a try.

Cheers.
