I wouldn't be surprised. They already rebuilt old Russian aircraft carrier... and then they copied it, and now they have two!
 
The ship has begun its 4 day journey to Genoa this morning. Estimated cleanup cost of just over $2b.
 
Such an expensive piece of equipment and they probably didn't want to spend an extra $100k to add some kind of computer system that could have prevented it in the first place. Or did the Captain override the safety system...hmmm

I don't think any type of computerized "system" could have prevented this. AFAIK, the captain deliberately paraded the boat too close to shore in an attempt to show it off. The boat stuck a rock and capsized. If that wasn't bad enough.. getting the passengers off the boat was completely botched including the captain jumping ship and leaving everyone else behind (big no no).
 
AIS , GPS and secondary system which was alarmed were all over ridden. Other than pilot error there was nothing to be done. The Captain and officers bailing and "organizing rescue efforts from shore" will long be remembered as one of the maritime messes in history.
After abandoning ship, leaving many dead and refusing to return to the ship after being directed by maritime disaster coast guard to return to the ship, the captain launched an unlawful dismissal suit after the cruise line punted him.
