That's a good start, but the hammer needs to be huge. A $1000 fine won't stop the vast majority of people from doing whatever they want to.they are doing follow ups in NS, going to the persons residents,
Others are flying in like they own the place, what's your point? Screw the ones without connections and no other place to live?Tons of Americans with homes and cottages here in Canada having hissy fits because they’re not being allowed into the country right now as well.
Given their situation down there right now, with all due Canadian politeness.....**** ‘em.
In my opinion, the border should be an infinitely tall line. I don't care how you cross the line, the rules are the same. Any other policy basically favor the haves over the have nots. From a virus spreading perspective, haves and have nots are fundamentally different.Others are flying in like they own the place, what's your point? I believe they have a 3 strike rule, they call them each day when in quarantine, if they miss 3 calls they get fined.they are doing follow ups in NS, going to the persons residents,
That's even worse. To help them understand how exponential growth works, use it for the fines. First missed call is $50, second missed call is $2,500, third missed call is $6,250,000 (but we'll round down to a million if paid within 30 days). That will drive home how important it is. After the second missed call, they will be sleeping beside the phone with a generator running to make sure the battery never dies.I believe they have a 3 strike rule, they call them each day when in quarantine, if they miss 3 calls they get fined.
If he was smart he'd go after places like NY for putting sick people back in old age homes.Burying your head in the sand doesn't stop the dead bodies from piling up.

Ugh. Idiots. Idiots everywhere. We feel let down as Canadian citizens because we can't travel how we want, when we want, many thousands of km's through multiple countries during a raging pandemic?
It was pretty clear in the March april timeframe that things were going to be locked down. I know many people that altered their plans to get across before the lockdown happened. It looks like these people were more focused on their plan than reality.
The couple, who has been married for four years, bought a house in Cancun earlier this year and sold their home in Kawartha Lakes in March.
At the end of April, they came to Windsor with all their belongings to drive across the border.
Alex is Canadian, while Alejandra is a permanent resident and Mexican citizen.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, U.S. Customs and Border Protection refused them entry.
While Alejandra is a Mexican citizen and could go back, she can't drive there as she doesn't have a license. The couple also said that flying and shipping all their belongings would be too expensive.
"Right now I feel a little bit let down as a Canadian citizen," Alex said. "We consider Mexico the third North American country and we should have free access."
If we had a proper quarantine process set up (eg. go straight to a hotel and stay in your room for 14 days, you pay the bill and are free to leave at that point), I wouldn't be hugely opposed to those people crossing but we don't. The ones that did make it across ruined any chance for the rest by behaving like entitled children and doing whatever they wanted with no regard to quarantine.
Now, I have no idea about healthcare implications of US citizens entering without insurance coverage. I would have no problem with Ontario putting a lien on their property to cover the bill as they made a choice, why should we get stuck with the bill?
The other option that might work is a performance bond (say $250,000 per person). Gov't has the right to randomly check on you and inspect your premises during the 14 days. If, during that period you are not there or you have any visitors, you forfeit the bond and get escorted to the border. Enough would get caught to fund the program.

Source: CFL submits $42.5M financial request to federal government
The CFL has sent Canadian Heritage Minister Steven Guilbeault a revised financial request. A CFL source said Friday the league is seeking roughly $42.5 million in aid. In April, it asked the federal government for up to $150 million in financial assistance in the event of a cancelled 2020 season...www.680news.com
