Cops Posing as Beggars

so 172 tickets were given

I'm guessing $110 fine

They made $18920 in two days by keeping the streets "safe"

I'm in the wrong line of work :S

They aren't there yet, but the only real solution is to not have mobile devices accessible (like no open booze in the car) with an associated huge penalty. Telling people not to check their phones doesn't work.

Car manufacturers that bury everything within layers of menus requiring an incredible amount of driver attention be diverted from the road (I'm looking at you Ford) should also be held liable. They seem to forget that cars are for driving, if something takes more than 2 button presses to change, you shouldn't be doing it while driving. Some things on the fords take more than a half dozen presses through various menus to access (I am sure others are just as bad, I just haven't personally played with any that are worse). Once manufacturers start losing huge, they will bring back buttons that allow easy adjustments of the cars settings without requiring the drivers eyes (and requiring little thought).

I got bluetooth on my car deck and love th emike, but generally don't use it unless I'm droning on a long deserted stretch or just pick up to say "I'm busy, driving, will call later". Texting is out of question. If I expect an important one, I pull over, do what I need to do and get moving. The phone stays in the pocket at all times unless its charging, but my phone logs won't ever reveal any driving/texting behavior.

I guess handing out tickets is more lucrative than solving missing child cases, murders, and getting guns off the streets..... Just imagine if they put as much effort into the latter..

I suppose your job description lists only ONE responsibility. Further, if you think their priorities don't highlight your given examples, please take off the blinders.

Uhhhhh, this happened over a year ago. In "downtown" Burlington. Yeah, home to countless panhandling bums.

It was a huge joke...well actually it would have been funny if the pork chops weren't such clueless morons doing it. They weren't standing on the sidewalk, there was five of them running through traffic, causing huge cluster****s on an already bloated congested street, with a giggling chick recording the whole charade with a camcorder (presumably to record plates incase anybody sped off, but mostly each other hamming it up for the camera). Nobody thought they were bums, just idiots running through traffic. More than a few calls were placed to 911 about raving lunatics snarling up traffic.

Oh yeah and they "busted" me too...anybody that put their hand near their head got a ticket. My cigar lighter was construed as an "electronic device" and I had to waste two days to get the idiotic ticket dropped. Anybody who thinks that was a good idea needs to get their head out of their arse.

Although if you are a Halton cop I can understand why you might need some lube & help, it must be jammed up there pretty good.

The whole cell phone ban is a joke. Nowadays, people still text and talk, the difference is they also try to hide their phones. Talking on the hand held device, btw, has been proven to have little effect on the number of accidents. Using a hands free device is actually worse as the user becomes more detached from reality. Texting is of course different, however, we already had distracted driving laws in place beforehand. At any rate, eating, smoking, fixing your makeup, playing with your radio - they can all be as bad.

Makes me sleep well at nights knowing that my arse would not be slammed at the back

They're getting better at this - none of them had obvious cop mustaches!

Why would you expect a traffic cop to do the job of a homicide detective, a major crime unit or an anti gang squad? Do you seriously not know the difference between them?

Do you expect a dentist to do (or even know) what a neurosurgeon does because they are both doctors?

LOL

I have a problem calling dentists doctors but they get upset if you call them gob mechanics.

I have a problem calling someone with a PhD in Literature a doctor

as long as the police can use phones well driving the public should be able to as well. Im in dirham region and see cops on their Iphones all the time. The police do NOT have special magic driving powers that allow ONLY them to text/talk and use their computers and drive if its too dangerous for joe public to do it its too dangerous for the police

another poser thread:D

Exactly.

But more importantly; FANTASTIC sig gif!

You sure you live in Durham Region? xD

Even though I dislike the facts that cops and other emergency vehicles are allowed to use their phones while driving, I'd rather have that than people that just got their license thinking they're invincible Facebooking/Twittering/Texting while driving. At least cops have some experience multitasking while driving which is what their drivers training simulator tests them on. Sure, it doesn't make them "professionally trained" as they say, but they would be more aware of the road than the average Joe.

Have you seen High School kids on their phone while driving? They literally take ALL their attention and focus it on their phone doing w/e their doing. How about older drivers that have trouble seeing to begin with? They obviously take more time to accomplish whatever task they want on their phone.

i appreciate what their intention is, but I'm with the side that says "texting at a stop light is hardly a risk.." ... I do it all the time but I make the conversation secondary to being some what aware of what is going on around me... that is probably the rider in me.

that being said, all this "enforcement" .... you think it really makes a lick of difference? How many habitual speeders/drunk drivers/etc receive a ticket and continue their bad habits immediately after?

cash-grab.

just effing once I'd like a "blitz" on failure to signal, following too close, impeding traffic. No, that would be "too hard" to enforce and not yield satisifactory revenue.
