Condo Retards

Some people just enjoy worrying themselves towards premature heart attacks.

When they can't find enough to worry about in their own lives, there's always GTAM to the rescue!

There's a brand new stolen R1 on the forum right now. And that number is going to grow exponentially. Some of us care more than to write "sorry for your loss bro" over and over and ...over.

Deductible for an SS: $1000
Monster Chain: $250

getting a chain that expensive is retarded

theft insurance is cheaper than the chain... and if your bike get stolen with the chain which is as likely as your bike getting stolen without a chain...insurance wont reimburse the money you pay for the chain...

unless you dangle you bike up in the air with a chain hang down from the ceiling....where they get little leverage to cut the chain...now thats not retarded

Suggesting that someone buy a chain is caring enough.
Petitioning the board to call folks who don't a "retard" ventures into Take-A-Chill-Pill territory...

when your second bike is stolen.. lets see how much facility insurance is going to cost you as no insurance company will want to insure a high risk. Its such a hassle making the claim etc. Also think about all the time lost between claims that you cant ride. The season here is short enough. Maybe some people that $250 is better spend on a a fancy helmet this nice graphics?? lol!
In all, do as much as you reasonably can to protect your ride, but if a theif wants a bike/car/whatever, they will get it somehow.

People need to realise Motorcycling with modern equipment is not a cheap sport/hobby/passtime in this country.

Fair enough...but seeing the amount of bikes stolen, and resulting broken hearts (and wallets) doesn't scream out "chill" to me. You will see this board littered with "My Bike Was Just Stolen..." posts all summer long, yet strangely, no one does anything about it. This is no "regular chain." Read up on it. Case-hardened, carbide steel. Do you think the theives will be packing plasma cutters? You can't even get through this chain with one. Again:

Well, I think it's nice that there are people out there that care so much about my stuff... because personally I don't really care that much if my bike gets stolen and can't remember ever worrying about!

Once upon a time people thought tubular locks are hard to pick. They still think lock picking is harder than cutting the chain...

Any security measure is just a deterrent, IMO. It's primary function is not to prevent thieves from attacking their chosen target but to persuade them to look for a target that's easier to attack. Or more lucrative, which is the best deterrent of all.

Security measures are also a trade-off, both financially and convenience-wise. If your bike is a major investment for you it's stupid not to protect it reasonably and adequately. It's stupid to obsess about it too.

I guess the value of your bike both monetarily and personally determines your level of care. There's nothing wrong with spreading that care to other's bikes, as in you feel their pain. My thinking is that if everyone in condos would chain up, it would push the theives out of the undergrounds, and onto the streets, where they are more likely to get caught.. Hell, you wouldnt walk away from your bicycle without securing it, yet you walk away from your $$0,000 - $20,000 investment. This thinking has to change as society definitely has changed from the days of leaving your motorcycle unattended and unsecured.

Thieves are not going where they are more likely to get caught in the act or after the fact. As far as condo-type garages are concerned the first line of defense is ensuring only unit owners have access. Second is regular security patrols and monitoring. Chain locks are a distant third or fourth. If your garage is big, dark, unmonitored and the bike parked in a secluded spot, no chain will help much. Especially if your bike is a brand new supersport that looks like thousands of others.

Liability only for a 1200cc bike: $700

Not needing theft insurance because no thief would steal a dirty 10 year old naked/standard: Priceless

Lived in a shifty downtown co-op and then a downtown condo for a period of ~8 years with the bike (6 in the condo and I think 2 in the co-op. Bike was a Ducati monster (bought new while in the co-op) and I STILL have the bike while others around me were stolen. Simple alarm, cover, park in front of the car, lock to something set-up.

I think it is offensive to call the people retards that do not take at least these steps and live in a condo, offensive to retards.

How much does a Monster Chain cost?

bwahaha as if it wasn't posted enough already.

... Bike was a Ducati monster ...

I'll venture a guess that your bike's type and looks had more to do with its safety than all the security measures you deployed. It would be interesting to see how long a brand new GSXR 600 or similar would last under the same conditions. I'll venture another guess and say "not very long".

As long as there's condo retards around, maybe the thieves will leave my cable-locked bike alone in my private locked garage. How do you keep your bike safe? Watch the victims - don't do what they do and stay several steps ahead of the game.

Chains don't work. You think 2 strapping organized criminals don't have a bolt cutter or grinder in the VAN THEY CAME EQUIPED WITH?!?!?! FFS they come with a VAAAAAAAAAAAAN and STOLEN PLATES!!!!

Condo theft is NOT oportunistic theft off the street! It is planned, calculated and executed with precision and skill! Chains only deter punk kid joy riding oportunity theives trying their luck as they walk by.

The best advice is "out of sight, out of mind". Hide your valuables as best you can! A thief can break into any house or lock in anywhere between 5 seconds to 5 minutes. If they want it they will have it, it is simply a matter of them knowing that you have what they want!

Look up "bump keys" on youtube and see how secure your house is! The reason why your house wasn't broken into yet has little to do with the lock on your door!!! And the same applies for the bike you think is safe because it has a piddly 16mm chain on it.

My buddy bought a Ducati in the states to drive around down the coasts with his friends. Unfortunately he couldn't sell it before coming back up so he stashed it at his friend's garage. He lives in a house with a locked garage (padlocks on the inside), and his bike is also locked (I am unsure with what security). Thieves broke into his garage and took off with the R6, but my friend's Ducati was left there. MAYBE that was due to the fact it had that wonkin' 200 lb snake wrapped around it. but not sure.

lol, well obviously they're going to take the easier one to steal that's like saying 'locking your car prevents car thefts'... it just makes it more difficult.

Some of us who live in condos dont have the option to wrap a chain around anything, and I don't appreciate you calling me a retard for following condo rules and not putting a ****ing bucket of cement in my parking spot or illegally drilling holes into the wall/ground of the garage. You are naive for believing that a chain will keep your bike safe anywhere. It may deter theft, but don't think they can't find a way to take it.
The ONLY safety net is theft insurance, end of story.

buying and keeping a pet python is totally cool...
