Interesting. I didn’t read the whole article but sadly I suspect that with regards to motorcycle theft the return is too lucrative. Put it in a van and take it home where you can dissolve the lock with an industrial acid. Where there is money someone will always find a way.

I was thinking along the lines of cable lock thru bike and around structural pillar.

I didnt read much either but from watching the video it seemed to me that the problem with the angle grinder was the wheel wasnt big enough (diameter wise) to get through it all. He seemed to cut through it but couldnt get all the way due to the thickness of the lock.

Did I miss something?

The proteus would probably lose in a flash to a diamond wheel. They were using a conventional wheel.

The second lock seems to base most of it's security on being too big for a cordless grinder to cut through. One grinder with an aluminum wheel and a second with a zip disc would make quick work of it. Just cut a notch in the aluminum to make space and then straight through the steel. You might be able to get away with one wheel but I'm not sure if the aluminum would load up the disc too much.

It was cutting just fine until the operator buried the wheel and shattered it. It went 1/2" deep in about 5 seconds.

Why didn't he just cut a section out of the bicycle rack :|

...or attack the joint where you would be at the steel portion in seconds.

It is the same as it ever was, if someone really wants your bike, car, etc..... they will get it.

Wake me up when they come out with a lock that assaults the perp when he tries to break it.

Instead of their voodoo ceramic ball crap, they should have put powdered capsaicin. No risk to anyone unless you are grinding the lock.

The Skunk lock. When they cut into it, it spews skunk stink all over the perp and the bike and the lock. lol bike theft would lose some of its appeal real fast.

Forget the stink, spray them with high viz permanent ink.

How about Hi viz permanent ink that stings like nettles and stinks like skunk ass coated with poison parsnip.
.... we are talking about ******* motorcycle thieves here, they deserve whatever they get.

Just came across this article that says there will be a new material for bike locks.
I understand they mean bicycles, but could this finally stop condo motorcycle thefts?

If they can't have it, then they will trash it... That's more of a heartbreak when you come and see your beloved bike all wrecked up... Insurance adjusted will come and write if off

In other words... They will ALWAYS win!

Unless there is some serious deterrance

Well, from the video it seems to me like a solid inch of the blade was through the material.

And as long as there's sparks, there's material being cut. There was lots of sparks until the guy cooked the wheel by trying too hard.

I think this is going to end up on that lockpicker guys YouTube channel in a year from now being cut through in mere seconds.

Just read some more on it.

This is about as "Non cuttable" as the Titanic was "unsinkable".
