Condo/Apartment Locks

Anyone seen these before? Gonna be pretty hard for anyone to load up the bike in a van with these bad boys.

Awesome on multiple fronts. The fact that it rolls makes it easy to tuck your bike tightly into your space.

Unless I'm missing something, what's to prevent them from putting the whole bike + rig up on rollers and loading it into a van? It would make sense if it where bolted down, but you can't do that in a condo (and if you could, then an anchor or two would suffice).

exactly, this would stop a thief who plans on riding the bike away, but if they have a van i dont see it making that big of a difference unless its seriously mounted down.

Really nothing from preventing thieves from stealing your bike if they want it they'll take it but it's something that just makes their work harder I suppose. Not sure how heavy this thing is but if they wanna spend the extra time taking the rollers out somehow aligning this to the rollers by all means go ahead, more time for them to get caught in the act though. I myself don't really care for these posted it in case someone is interested pricey though. I pay for insurance and that's good enough for me.

align? I imagine two of these would work:

If it is in fact designed to be anchored then it does make more sense, but given the cost vs two anchor points & two really thick chains, I just can't see it making a lot of sense. If it were $500 or less then that would be a completely different story.

It's designed to be anchored to the floor.

That would be the pivot point, the images in the ad clearly show this. I think it is a great idea, sadly I am sure any condo woudl give you flack over it just for the sake of doing so...

waiting to buy one off kijiji from a mini storage in Scarborough, the guys that steal bikes sitting in them will likely sell em off cheap.

Never mind I was probably high when I posted....for some reason I was thinking of the roller ramps...don't ask me why

Good luck with that

Forget cheap, they'll probably give it to you for $0 with free delivery -- Just give them your address for shipping purposes, lol.

Since it's on rollers, a ramp and a power winch would likely do the job in a minute or so. I remember seeing a heavy plate front wheel dock on a UK website, that lag bolts into the ground, but haven't been able to find it again.

only real downside will be getting a hole drilled in a condo/apt cement pad. Hole is easy, permission to make hole.............

Just remember one thing.. its only as strong as its weakest link.. meaning that lock will be cut and your anchor will be sitting there without the bike on it..

That's why I mentioned the one that I did. It looked like the front end of the one pictured above, lag bolted down from inside the cowl, and had a heavy steel rod that went through the front wheel and locked essentially flush with the side. I'm sure that a chop saw or angle grinder would get through it, but it would take a damned sight longer than the minute or two that pros are accustomed to taking.

I mean I am sure it would slow someone down, or just make them say its not worth it. Making it that much harder would help i guess.. but whats the cost of one of those?

They're claiming it to be a pretty strong lock. But ideally if someone can get permission to drill holes in the ground this would be perfect. Might just be too much of a hassle for someone and not even bother?maybe....
