It's a tough call. If they offer you many years of profit right now and you don't need to do anything anymore and forums are in general declining in participation (and therefore value), selling is probably the right financial call. If you want to avoid the death spiral, you could decide to put pride in front of money and keep grinding. I'm glad Paul/CK haven't sold but wouldn't fault them for doing it.
My issue is more with those who just take that first offer. There were a couple websites where I would exchange a few emails a year with the owners because niche independent motorcycle content creation websites aren't many... I was surprised to see they all just took the first offer and didn't even put an ad on their site in case anyone in the community might have matched or bettered the offer. There was one site for sure that I would have paid the sale price for. Buddy never thought to let people know until after the deal was done. Shot himself in the foot and his audience in the face...
If you start an endeavor it's exciting and meaningful. If it pays the bills it's even better.
I don't know the economics of running a forum but any business can stop being fun. If the owner can't adjust to the politics it might be time to cash out.
I think BMW rallies welcome children. I was ringing the Great lakes a few years back there were 3 guys with 5-7 yr old pillion passengers on their way to a Midwest rally.
BMW rallies may be the most family friendly and inclusive events out there . Usually a mechanic ( all volunteer) on site to help people that came from afar and need help home ( some guys ride really old bikes into these events) . There is almost no muscle flexing and they have the best management for food and camping I’ve ever seen .
The volunteers that put on the events are really looking for that badge of honour that comes from hosting a great rally .
Some of you guys that Beemered before may know about the BMW anonymous book , it covers North America and lists a phone number and email of BMW owners in almost every town and city that will provide a garage space / tools / a spare bed / coffee and a laundry service , all on reciprocal basis to build community.
Especially fun when the "Airheads" set up thier camp. Years ago in Trenton they had a wedding type tent and filled it with rental furniture.Lazboys, sectionals, rockers, wingback. And a bunch of big tvs with video playback. Simple by choice is thier motto.

Pretty much every BMW Motorrad dealership I've been to around the world has a policy where they prioritize service to out-of-town travelers and will open up a service bay almost immediately to get you up and running, and back on the road ASAP.

Honda dealers I talked to re Goldwing service said the opposite. Take a number.
My question was hypothetical and hopefully they wouldn't make an out of towner wait a month.
I understand the seasonal business aspect of the problem. The rider is also a big part of the problem but having to lose a quarter of your riding season sucks.
There's a difference between something suddenly failing and ignoring things that could have been repaired over the winter. Breakdown vs maintenance.
Any you care to recommend? I'm on KLR650forum and it's ok. KLR650.net is horrible. It' appears as something from the 90's - many different fonts in varying colours and sizes, ads popping up blocking access to parts of the site. Probably a wealth of knowledge and info there but a huge pita to navigate.
