Computer Techs get in here

You're core's report 99*C and the CPU temp reports 25*C? thats weird. Post a picture of the motherboard mainly the CPU socket area to show us what you've got set up

I'm assuming he has a case with a few remote sensors (one for CPU) that he either has hanging outside his case, or not hooked up entirely.

well i put on arctic silver 5 and the temp has dropped by 10 degree and the hottest core is sitting at 89 degrees (but theres also a 200 hour break in period for this stuff to actually work so i guess its doing its job)

i asked the guy at canada computers what he thought and he said it because i had crappy ram (munchkin ram because i was broke and couldnt afford the kingston at the time) and he said how my ram latency's might be off

anyways, heres my cpu

damn, is that all you get for cpu cooling nowadays...i'm outta touch on this stuff...anyone else think that heat sink is a tad small...i know it's intel and it's probably gone through it's paces...but i would expect something a little more robust...

Aside from the heat issue, check the Event Viewer or syslog (OS?)

Just last week, Microsoft Update provided a driver for my video card which completely messed up... rolled back the driver and everything was back to normal.

thanks for the help but i figured it out its a RAM issue

i didnt think much of it but when i used prime 95 to test it, my computer kept freezing up.

but im guessing i should upgrade my heat sink also. suggestions?

RAM is usually the culprit when it comes to freezes/blue screens, especially after a fresh install.

Yes, you want to upgrade that stock heatsink fan to something aftermarket, and overclock that baby ! start reading on www.hardforums.com

Also, I just noticed your RAM setup. You have installed the sticks on separate channels. In layman's terms, the data won't synchronize properly, and it's possible that is the main reason they were freezing up (somebody correct me if I'm wrong) . Install the sticks on slots with the same colour. Your ram sticks may or may not be damaged (according to running prime), but just make sure in the future!

Ya, you're right...

Check your manual, you should instal your RAM in the white slot OR blue slot... not one in each.

Also for future reference for you and anyone else, it is best to check the HCL (Hardware Compatibility List). Sytemboard (motherboard) manufacturers and other (RAM) manufacturers test specific models of components against others and verify they work together correctly.

It is considered "best practice" to consult the HCL before using a specific brand and model of a component. That's not to say it won't work, but if you run into a support situation it is easier to prevent yourself from being brushed off by having them say "That component isn't supported so we can't help you."

I have spent over 10 years in IT I know the games that are played by companies when supporting (or not) their product. Hopefully though you are able to reach resolution with your hardware.

I had the ram on the same channel but it was still freezing I just swapped the ram in the picture because I kept removing the heatsinkBut in response to the above posts, i don't think I can oc a locked CPU but I've been reading up on oc my ramThe Mushkin ram I have now is 1066 and I was lookin up gskill 8gb at 1333 to upgrade to. Am i able to mix the brands in if I removes the corrupted stick or would I just be limited to 1066mhz?

It's best to have matched RAM sticks, same clock speeds, the CAS and RAS timings might be different as well, if the sticks come from a different Manuf.
You didn't mention what MB you're running. Refer to the manual for the correct slots to insert your RAM. Looks like a tri-channel MB, and you have 2 sticks, so make sure that they are in the right slots and that the MB can run on 2.
Check the RAM timing settings in the BIOS to make sure you have the speed set to the speed of the RAM you are using. The default BIOS setting might be OC for 1066. If you slow down the clock the other timing settings, if in auto, will set acording to the MHz of the RAM settings. If you have verbos setting on you will see the RAM speed at boot.

Your CPU temp seems high, My i7 sits around 55-65°. Under high stress 80°.
Also run 1 stick at a time and see if it freezes on any single stick. If it freezes on that stick, you have a bad stick.
