Basic features, tough build, heavy and 20+ yr. life cycle. The Harley-Ferguson of laundry. Does that still exist? Everything I see on the floor is either cheap tin/low cost or space shuttle. Not looking to keep up with the Jones's, just want clean dungarees.

I got Kenmore Elite stuff and no problems with it for about 7 years now. I read a ton of reviews beforehand though.

Maybe try a used appliance store. 20 years isn't very long. Are you washing your rock collection?

First machines (Maytag) were 15yr. old when I bought the house, lasted another 5 yrs. with heavy rotation (student rental). Next machines lasted 5yrs. each set. I'd be happy to get back to the 20 yr. program but, alas, the simple bomb proof stuff isn't available anymore. Have my eye on the Huebsch light commercial line but proving difficult to source. Not looking to wash rocks but wouldn't mind that option.

We had Huebsch in our last house. Stuff is built like a tank. Not cheap and can be expensive if repairs are required (but they rarely are).

My friend's dad has been in the appliance repair business for 25+ years. He says if you get 7 years out of a modern washing machine, consider yourself lucky. Anything over that and it's on borrowed time. Of course they are never worth fixing after a couple years because a new one is only $500 and the short average lifespan left. Dryers last a bit longer.

I wash my sleeping bags at the coin laundry using Huebsch. I like. I want. When I phone listed Huebsch dealer (Brantford and Kitchener) they can't satisfy.

I went thru this 5 or 6 years ago and was basically told "you're renting the unit at $100/yr. get over it". Everything is going this way. Hard to get over. Also don't want electric motor operating my butterfly but that's a topic for another day.

+100. Best advice here.

Our Maytag neptune was top of the line in its time era 7+ yrs ago. Already had to replace a mainboard in it. Still going strong, but for how much longer .. who knows.

LOL, salesman from T.A. Appliances (supposed to carry Huebsch) just called back. Can't get. I asked him to suggest an alternative....."There is no alternative, nothing in our store will give more than 5yrs. going after Huebsch light commercial is the right thing to do".

Call Huebsch Canada directly. 1.800.553.5120

Yeah. He also said the $1200 washer won't last any longer than the $500 unit. They aren't like some things where spending a bit more gets you higher quality and longer lifespan. These just have some extra bells and whistles, cool colours and fancy options you'll probably never use anyway.

I suspected as much and alluded to that in my first post by suggesting not trying to keep up with the Jones's (bragging rights features) and space shuttle comment. I want the $dollars going to motor, transmission and chassis.

Sweating into the bed sheets that bad huh?

(Space shuttle quality. I'd be looking for that. You can get a lot of mileage out of a space shuttle.)

Too many knobs, dials and gauges.

Sometimes you just want a machine where you put dirty clothes in with some soap and you get wet clean clothes out. They stopped making machines that just did this, and only this, some time ago...

My advice, get an afordable machine (light on features) and plan on replacing in five years. I also highly recommend staying away from Whirpool (unless you like replacing much sooner than 5 years) and any Whirpool sub brands entrely based on personal experieince with customer service and multiple appliances. Put it this way, if I came home with one my wife would likely divorce me. They own so many brands it is hard to avoid them.

GE, Electrolux, Fridgedaire, LG, Bosch, Samsung and a few others are at least NOT them. Not saying they are any better but these days I tend to buy appliances based on who didn't make them!

I would stay away from GE and Maytag..... had a Kenmore lasted over 20 years. then bought a GE lasted 2 years...now with Whirlpool so far 5 years and still going good...

That describes the simple coin operated Huebsch laundromat machines I'm desperately trying to source. They're not making it easy. Sorta scares me for replacement parts in the future. Anyway, I've managed to find commercial grade Maytag washer/dryer without coin slots @ 5 yr. warranty. I think that's encouraging. Most other warranties are 1yr. Only hiccup, the washer comes with 1/3hp motor where Huebsch has 1/2hp. Model numbers are mvw18mn and mdg18mn for those interested in viewing simple white elegance.
