Sounds like an incredible trip. I have been itching to get out there for a while now, especially down to the grand canyon.

Are you sure your a biker? Every biker I know has there bike forefront in every picture. It wouldn't matter if it was in front of a mankind's first contact with extraterrestrials, the bike would be right there :D

My GPS for some reason gave up the ghost in Nebraska on the way out, but I hadn't put any routes into it in any event. I used Mapquest just to get an idea of timing, but what I did was order maps and brochures online from the various tourism bureaus in Colorado, Arizona and Utah. The maps for all of them noted scenic by-ways and honestly, by the time I got there I had studied them so often I hardly even looked at the paper maps. Then I did some wandering, just made sure I was going in the general direction of my next stop. Some of the places I wanted to see, but didn't, were the San Juan Scenic By-way in Colorado, Zion National Park in Utah, Seligman in Arizona (which is supposed to be one of the more authentic stretches of Route 66), Santa Fe in New Mexico, I had hoped to make a trip out to Las Vegas - didn't happen, I thought Tombstone was be neat as well, and maybe a sidetrip down to Roswell, NM. Guess I'll just have to go back.

I used to say if I couldn't see it from the saddle of my bike, then it wasn't worth seeing - but something about this area just grabbed me, I spent a lot of time hiking trails in the various National Parks and walking places the FZ1 was just not allowed.
