Collision coverage - necessary?

Is this 1st rime forgiveness a standard practice through all insurance companies? I have set my mind on riders plus cuz they have the best quote for me. Not sure if they have this.
Depends on brokers, and you need to have a 7 star rating and you pay a premium for it... (but in my case was more than worth it.)
Dont think its something thats commmon with motorcycles though, youll have to look around :)

Ugh it would probably be a no to me. Anyhow, now you used up your "first time", ride safe ;)

No, not all companies have it and as was said abouve you need a near perfect driving record to qualify for it. I have it on my combined auto/bike policy because it was free from my insurer due to my excelent record. My wife however did not qualify for it. So if she is driving we pay, If I am driving we don't..

That said, my understanding is (and maybe vifferfun can chime in on this) having accident forgivness does not prevent them for adding it to your file, just from raising your premium.. meaning if you choose to switch companies in the next 7 years.. it's still going to come up and raise your rate.. and in my experience it's best to shop at every renewal..

^^^ Luc that's very good to know... Jeez didn't expect the insurance thing is so complicated... Ugh i just remembered that i have an actuarial science degree...lol! Shame on myself...

yeah that 1st time forgiveness only works with the company that gave it to you, so youre kinda stuck with them for a while ;)
since my rate dropped drastically last year i dont mind sticking it out with them for a while, my broker is awesome anyways

I don't have collision on my bike since I believe in only insuring against 'catastrophe'

I do have collision on my car though, since
- it's more expensive to fix,
- I drive more miles than I ride, and
- I drive in bad weather.

But I don't think it would make sense for Bill Gates to insure his house, if that helps.

Let's go ask him if he has a house insurance lol!

No collision on my bike... but I did spring for theft coverage (raised my premium more than collision would have). I'm super paranoid and hate leaving my bike unattended in public, so the theft coverage gives me some peace of mind.

No collision on any of my bikes either, but do have theft/fire and comprehensive the 800 per yr savings will pay for most damage anyways. And they really are just toys if I screw up and wreck one I will do without until I can buy a new one.
