Co-lateral damage

It appears that a very talented surgeon, maybe the best in Canada, may have committed murder.

If found guilty does he spend the next 25 years in prison or does he get out to save lives?

His patients could be co-lateral damage.

One patient said she'd go into the prison for him to perform surgery. That's how specialized a neurosurgeon he is. Makes ya think though. Could he serve his time by doing the surgeries in a prison setting (or in a hospital under guard) without profit? Would that best serve society and punish him for his crime? Would you trust him with your brain?

I'd want reassurances that he had been at least partly rehabilitated. Probably let him start on a coconut, move to yodude, a couple track days and then I would let him work on my brain.

Make a surgeon work for free? thats a cruel and unusual torture that would not likely be allowed here.

Would the Doctor be happier in prison making licence plates or mail bags for nothing? If he continued with the surgery he would maintain some of his skill sets but as with all technologies new stuff comes along and he would need to take refresher courses.

Would I let him operate on me? A lot would depend on why he (Allegedly) bumped off the first victim. Also since he would theoretically have little to lose by making an Oopsie there would be a definite concern.

If he was the only alternate to having a non-life caused by what he could cure, what's there to lose?

Too much laughter. Cannot ride home.

The answer to that question would be whether he's doing what he does to save lives, or for the money. If it's for the money, take it out of the equation, and what do you have left in prison?

I thought you need a license to practice medicine...murder=no license

It is an interesting moral/social dilemma.
What to do with someone with such skill?

I would think that a skill set that advanced would need constant honing so letting him out of jail for a few hours every once in a while would let him rust up pretty quick. He is also going to suffer from lack of day to day input from his operating team and other similarly skilled people.

There's a good chance he's a high achiever and living in a cell isn't going to boost his spirit.

Is he out on bail? Working? or in the clink?

Kinda worried with his street smarts. Getting caught for murder? Does this mean his surgeon skills could be less than his reputation suggests?

I would expect better. Don't think the government could afford the malpractice insurance?

Street smarts and intelligence isn't the same thing. He has the skills to be a neurosurgeon, but not the criminal ones.
The gov't will never let him practice, but it is a waste of ability. Most he could do after, is assist in the jail med clinic.

I'd rather lick my own wounds rather than this fella.

Suppose I could be suggesting I'm pen ready. Oh boy!

They said he had hit her before and was charged with domestic, she stayed...clearly he had a serious violent side to him...yelling and screaming is one thing but once EITHER side starts with the physical abuse it only goes downhill very quickly.

How the hell two professional people that are making their own money end up like this is clearly 'nuts'.
This moron had no concern about his kids future either, mom dead and dad in jail.

When rage kicks in the brain shuts down.

Re the morality of letting people off because they are of great benefit to society, What about the Nazis that used slave labour in Germany WWII but ran NASA.

NASA, NAZI what's a few letters here or there.
