Clothes Washer and Dryer - any recommendations?

The nicest feature on my Whirlpool Duet, which most newer better machines probably have is a dryer program that every once in a while after the dry cycle is over it, starts up and tumbles so your clothes don't wrinkle if you cant empty it right away.
The moisture detector so it shuts off when the clothes are dry and doesnt cook them is pretty awesome.

Samsung has been making some great headway into the appliances sector while Whirlpool and run itself into the ground. Appliance Canada is a good place for mid to high end products and they do sell a lot commercially which does keep the pricing competitive.

Depending on the model line, you may have to order and wait for a natural gas dryer. And once it becomes an order product, pricing isn't quite as good.

Not all extended warrentys are created equal so, ask what benefits are, see it in writing and compare with the competition. Believe me, they do vary a lot. I used to recommend keeping the money in your pocket but, have to agree even the best machines fail now and they don`t always do it when a replacement is on sale and the repair can be just as costly.

Costco`s return policy is pretty good. I consider them for electronics. I haven`t really sized up their appliances but, know they do offer a limited selection. Worth at least a look.

I install flooring for a living.
1/3 of my work has been contracted thru insurance disasters over the past 10 yrs.
Front loading washing machines are responsible for at least 10x as many floods as top loaders.
Just saying.

And mine are going into my garage too.
I have settled on LG's. Just working on getting the best price now.
Thanks for all of your advice. It has really helped.

Any updates since 2012? I'm looking ahead.
Holy Thread Necromancy, Batman!

We had Whirlpool a long time ago and they were good. Lasted well after we moved out of the Toronto house.
Bought a new set for Ottawa, and the washer has been crap.

We just replaced it with a 5.8 cu ft LG from Costco: https://www.costco.ca/lg-5.8-cu.-ft...asher-with-ezdispense.product.4000157333.html

Only had it a couple of weeks. Seems good so far.
Our second Whirlpool washer blew a gasket about a month in, and a couple of years later, kept stopping halfway thinking there was too much suds.
Whirlpool Dryer, with steam which we rarely use, is still going strong, but the venting needs a good cleaning and parts of it replaced.

My dad has a set from the 60's still going, although I don't know how well, and I'm not sure of the make.

Researching washers and driers is a huge pain. Reviews on these things can be all over the place.
What I am looking for form you guys is real life experience with what you have and would you recommend that particular brand/model.

I am looking for a front loading washing machine that is big enough to wash a king sized comforter, this bit is non negotiable.
What I am told is that I need at least 4.3 CFT washer.
I am not interested in a steam option for the washer.
I really don't care about bells and whistles. I want it quiet, solid and reliable. I would love to get 10 years + out of this thing.

Dryer. Must be gas and have a drum of 7CFT to handle what comes out of the wash. I want a steam dryer and I hear it does wonders for pulling wrinkles out and cutting down on my ironing time. And like my washer, I want them to last as long as possible with no repairs required.

Folks, let me know what you're using, why and would you recommend it.
Thanks!
I've had the same washer and dryer since 83.

Worked do well I married her in '86.

Bought a matching set of Electrolux in 2020. Washer flooded our new house on the first cycle as the water hose was not connected to the soap try during manufacturing. Called Electrolux to complain and for comp and they said to go through home insurance and then they'll assess if they'll reimburse me.
The dryer of that set coughed out the lint trap and swallowed a sock that got stuck in the blower requiring a service tech. The tech shorted out the computer when he took off the front panel requiring another few weeks with no dryer to await a new computer. 3 months later it swallowed another sock, again stuck in blower, called a different tech who advised there was a recall on the drum vane and first tech should have fixed that.
After those issues were dealt with they've worked ok.

I like to buy the simplest, most bare bones washer and dryer that I can find. Less things go wrong.

No need to have wifi on my laundry equipment. we just listen for the buzzer.

Currently have an older style ELECTROLUX set that is going strong. Since Kevin installed them we checked the connections and they're fine...but I do need to clean the exhaust as that hasn't been done in years, and I even bought that cleaning kit that @GreyGhost recommended a while ago.

I clean mine once or twice a year. All rigid duct without screws and it still builds up. Clothes dry noticeably faster after cleaning (and less likely to burn my house down). Normally one plastic shaft dies every cleaning. Getting close to needing another set to replenish supply.
