Hey everyone,

I'm in talks with a dude to get his 1990 GSXr 750 (L) off him. Anyone wanna chime in on their thoughts on the bike?
Any owners willing to trade a 6pack for a chance to sit on the bike? I just want to get a good idea of the fit before I commit.

Anything I should lookout for when inspecting it? Anyone know about its overheating issues? How are the availability on parts? Comfyness, reliability? Any general issues I should know about?

Thanks for your input!

Suzukis old air/oil cooled bikes are all but indestructible.
Those were the bikes I lusted after as a teen stuck on a Shadow500....and to this day, sportbikes from that era are my fave.
Comfy? HaRDLY......but most sportbikes aren't anyways.

I had a '93 GSXR750 WP(?). Overweight and underpowered, particularly after a couple of valves decided to get intimate with the pistons. I loved the way that bike looked though. Even with the best of care, this bike is getting long in the tooth. If you like tinkering, scrounging for parts and he is practically giving it away, sure... but if you want to spend more time riding than wrenching Id pass.

Well said. Even though I love old bikes I looked at one with a 7/11 swap and also a old kawi with the 7/9 swap, but in the end I bought newer bike. I have had lots of old bikes in the past but with something newer it's way easier to find and throw parts at it to suit your need..

all in all decent bikes though if you are set on it...

OP... Why not go to gixxer.com and ask whatever questions you have there?
You'll get the answers you're looking for and hopefully you make a more educated decision.

If it is well taken care of it will be reliable. The 1990 750 was arguably the best year of the air/oil cooled 750s. 2nd gen
chassis with the long stroke engine (88-89 had a short stroke engine). There are A LOT of people that still love (and work on) these oil cooled engines/bikes, with reason.

As mentioned above the oil cooled section of gixxer.com is your friend.

Your bike has a completely different engine, and is heavier, than the one OP is looking at...

Check the old skool suzuki website, or as mntioned gixxer.com for everything you could possibly neeed to know about thes e bikes. The one ur looking at is the engine ud want from that era in the 750 cc with oversized valves and fondly called the "dot" head. Having said that i predict you will h advertising in about a year to purchase an 1100 engine :-) this is an older bike so be prepared to spend bike wrenching. Ud own an old skool bike like this because you enjoy the experience, not because it wa the cheapest thing on two wheels. Ride to maintenance ratio i almost 2:1, so b prepared... unless of course its mint in which case ur one lucky fellow with a bulletproof bike.

You are right, the water cooled bike was about 25lbs heavier, but I'll still stand by everything I said. Overweight, underpowered and going to be maintenance intensive.

If you decide to get the gixxer 750, and need parts, hit me up. I'am parting out a complete 1988 gixxer 7/11 with full polished frame and 10inch over polished swingarm.

Pretty much indestructible like mentioned. My old man, and his friend bought there 1100's at the same time, both put 180,000 KM's on the bike. My old mans bike was bought and is still riding today, met the guy that owned it at a bike stop last summer. Now it was 220,000 KM's on it, just doesn't shift into 2nd anymore lol.
