Clarification on sprocket sizes.

Hello,

I ordered a 520 sprocket bit on the sprocket it is stamped as 525a.

Also on the back of the package it says 520.

Am I just interpreting this wrong? I attached 2 photos.

Compare the new sprockets' thickness to your known sprocket.

Thanks for the advice Inreb. I also got a new 520 front sprocket with the order as well.

I lay them down and both sprockets look exactly the same thickness. Also when I put the two sprockets against each other the tips or points I guess you could say seem to be the same width and line up with each other.

I guess this means that the sprocket is in fact 520? Maybe that is just the way they # their part?

There is something seriously wrong with stamping 525 on a 520 sprocket. Any layperson should be able to pick one up off the shelf if instructed to "please pass me a 520 sprocket as I have fallen and can't get up". If it's stamped anything other than 520 and especially if it's stamped 525 you're going to have cheese weasels pointing fingers.
