Clares Motorcycle service rant

You must love having drama in your life and haven't gotten passed the public school playground part in life.

Guessing by your avatar this is the Hwy 20 location.

Damn, I thought they'd gotten better after the "other imports" moving the new NotL location, but I guess I'm mistaken.

I'd try going back and showing them the flawed workmanship and missed bleeders. I'm guessing they owe you some $'s!!

I never realized that a motorcycle forum was a place to be judged by our peers for grammatical errors instead of the receiving advice for motorcycle related questions that we are seeking answers for.

This site specializes in nit picking over trivia. Bad call on the part of Clares it appears. You don't mention the bike make or model. If the bike was a rare model the mechanic could be slightly forgiven for missing the screw but slowly replacing the bike one piece at a time is a stretch.

Well, here's where I stand. You, the guy who put a "spark plug" in his drain plug hole, wants to tell a mechanic how to bleed brakes.

Honestly?

Nope...I told my peers on this site. I'm not sure what one has to do with the other.

The breaks are still fine and not a drop of oil was lost...

The tech screwed up his brakes. He pointed that fact out here. What's your problem with that?

The OP's creative solution to his drain plug problem is irrelevant.

Now, if he's wrong about the tech screwing up his brakes, please point that out.

In for the lulz.

During a safety certification check... [Trimmed]
#1 The mechanic doesn't know **** and shouldn't even work on E-bikes. or #2 They know about the second bleeder screw and use this as an opportunity to screw people into new parts.

I also thought he/she rode an e-bike. The problem with the phrase he/she used is that it can be taken two ways:

  1. The tech is so incompetent they shouldn't even be working on a marvelous technological gizmo like my e-bike. or
  2. The tech is so imcompetent that they shouldn't even be allowed to work on a piece of crap like an e-bike, nevermind my wonderful fossil-fuel powered marvelous motorcycle.

Seemed perfectly clear to me, no safeties on ebikes, therefore Motorcycle, also, if they shouldn't even work on them, what does that leave a 'mechanic' to do?

But you folks carrying on criticizing each other. It's amusing.

Agreed :)

Shouldn't you just go back to Clares and explain all this in a calm and rational manner? It may not be a money grubbing conspiracy rather just worst employee syndrome. Studies show every company has one.

We need a study for that? Dang, we better figure out what percentage of people are bellow average while we are it at... Ohhh, Syndrome! Well that's a new one!? Is that where the easiest jobs go to the worst employee so they don't screw up the important ones? The Dilbert Principle says he should be promoted but I can't find these studies you speak of, perhaps we are coining a term?

OP: Did you get the old parts back?
Obligatory good advice: Always get the old parts back if there is any question in your mind.

I could tell you, but I that would get dandurann very mad. Getting me an infraction.
I don't need more infractions.

There are no studies like that, that I'm aware of. I refuse to search because then the joke would be on me too.:p

I have experience of Clares mechanics expertise. I took a bike in to be certified. They told me it needed a front tire on it because it was old. There weren't any cracks on the tire, and it had plenty of tread. No problem I said, I just happen to have a brand new one for it in my car. They charged me a reasonable fee to put it on the rim, but the "mechanic", who had difficulty in taking the wheel off, and putting it on, told me that there must have been a defect in the fork brace, because it broke. Seeing as I only had the fork brace off a week before, I knew there was nothing wrong with it. I had a spare brace so I didn't bother to argue the point.

I live in the area, and they only have one decent mechanic at Clares. If you don't get him to work on your bike, good luck! I would tow my bike to the GTA for work on it, rather than take it to Clares. The only reason I see that they stay in business, is that there is absolutely no competition for them in the area.
