He was the first "badarse" in the movies I've watched. He speaks little and his actions says it all. I think Good Bad Ugly just sealed the deal. I still watch that movie to this day and could never get enough of the ending.

I don't know why, but unforgiven didn't really do it for me. It was OK, but just not there. Maybe I need to watch the entire movie from start to finish, since I only had the chance to watch pieces.
