just got a stone chip in my crv windshield. any tips how to fix it or recommend any shop. shops like speedy auto do they actually do a good job?
thanks guys.

I've used those services in the parking lot of Canadian Tire. They seem to be cheap and work okay.

Little chips, you won't be able to see the repair, but if the hole is too big and they have to drill, the repair will be *very* visible.

As long as you realize the chip repair is not for aesthetics. The point of repairing windshield chips is not so it will look as good as new, it's to stop the hole from spider-webbing into larger cracks and to maintain the structural integrity of the glass so it won't shatter when you go over a bad bump or pothole.

Your location helps.

I've never repaired chips but my wife goes through a fair number of windshields due to stone/debris damage. I normally use GTA Autoglass in Aurora, but also had good luck with a place in Barrie (a bolt came through the window so she couldn't get back to aurora).

FWIW, I just pay for new glass. Going through insurance with our deductible doesn't make sense.

some Ins companies will cover the cost of the repair, the guy at the glass shop will know if yours does or not. Any glass guy will do an 'ok' job , there is no voodoo here

Allstate covered the cost of repair from Apple. The repair prevented further damage but, you could still see it.

I believe Apple can even handle the whole claim side of things. No deductible or cost but, it does affect any “claims free” discounts to may have earned.

Speedy auto glass bought most of apple out. My buddy was 1 of them.
He bought another business, and combined the glass end into it.
He's been doing stone chips etc over 30yrs now.
No need to go thru ins.....wink, wink.

I had a stone chip repaired last year by these guys based on feedback from redflagdeals:

Home - Autoglassworx
in Mississauga near Princess Auto (Dixie and Courtney Park Drive).

As mentioned above, the chip didn't look much different after the repair, but they guarantee it won't spread or they'll credit the cost towards a new windshield (as most places do). Talk to Ken, really nice guy (likes to talk, though), and ask for options - he told me there were two - one resin that fills better but doesn't last as long, and one that lasts longer but doesn't look as good. I was happy enough with that job that I used him again to replace the windshield on my MDX last week. With a new windshield, you get unlimited stone chip repairs not only on that car, but any other car you own (he covers the driver, not the car). He also covers some of your deductible if you decide to go through insurance.

Don't use Scott's in Milton. Anyone. Consider yourself warned.

I just go to the guys at the CT parking lots. I think I did one a few years ago and it was around $70 or so with receipt. No complaints.

Which reminds me, if you don't want to make a windshield repair claim on your insurance, ask for an "under-the-table" price.

I had a rental car last winter, and got a huge stone chip. Didn't want to use my credit-card insurance coverage and the chip repair guy asked for $20 cash, no receipt. Done and dusted.

Crazy glue. (cyanoacrylate)
It works but the refractive index is different then auto glass so you will still see the repair.

I had Speedy do a giant chip in the WRX's window, and the fix was great. Couldn't see where it was done other than the round mark around it afterwards. Would recommend. I can't remember how much it cost, it wasn't bad. Came to my house to do it.
