Just walking around in the lunch break downtown Toronto, checking out the millions of parked bikes around the office. Can't help but notice how riders are using just the middle of their tires, it's like big *** meaty 10 cm chicken breasts on the sides, lol.... What's the matter, lack of good roads or what? I can't imagine going even turtle speed and retain such strips on the sides of the rear, how is it even possible?!

means they're leaning off their bike instead more than they're leaning the bike.

that or they don't want to risk injury or crashing on city streets.

Highway commuting and not enough time to find twisty roads :(

I got < 1cm on the right side, but almost 2cm on the left. Know any good left hand on ramps?

That or I need to get a track day under my belt before summer is out!

The shame is too hard to bare!

I feel like I'm 15 years old again, without an olie hole in my skate shoes! I still don't respect a pair of scuff free DCs to this day!!!

The larger the un-used portion of the tire, the more traction they have in reserve.

Now if the rider has them because they ride fast in a straight line and park it in the turns that might be a problem.

Now if they have chicken strips larger than your because they move the body off the bike more and lean the bike less then they are using more advanced riding techniques and keeping more traction in reserve.

On that note not all chicken stips mean the rider is unskilled

where can you push it nowadays?
police are everywhere doing speed traps

e.g. police sit on the lawrence ramps pretty often now.
Forks is polluted with OPP especially with the new noise bylaw
TPS sit in that parking lot at Twyn Rivers
507 has OPP doing radar near their station

etc

I think those who have spots, are keeping them close to their chests....I know I don't wanna spill my sweet corners around town!

One really needs to memorize local likely traps and really know their locality, ins and outs, traffic flow, likely surprises, and so on.

Getting rid of chicken stripes on the street is the new dark art, the new summer hobby!

The opposite is also true.

Sure is for those that are afraid to get close to the ground and push the bike under them, or take off the stips by doing low speed tight turns and counter balance

The group rides they attend must be similar to this:

Well keep in mind your looking at communter bikes, these guys ride their bikes to work. Where in the city during rush hour traffic would you suppose they find the need to lean their bikes over? Even if they hit the odd on/off ramp its still not gonna do much to lean out those chicken strips for ya.

I can't agree more, yes, chicken strips are not a gauge for the skill...but come on---10 cm, literally! Just look around in downtown! I hang off the bike quite a bit to reduce the lean angle as much as possible, but even doing that and if not hitting corners way too fast---that kind of meat on the sides is unusual, lol!

Not all of those statements are true. I'm just not telling you which ones aren't.

And there are a number of little gems near some of the locations that you gave, that see much less traffic and attention. I'm just not telling you which direction to go from the spots that everyone knows about.

:)

Post your chicken stripes! The thinner the more legit obviously, but...

Props to anyone who has balls on their commuters! (pun intented).

I could swear I've been leaning my bike more this season than ever, but alas; still got 3/4" strips of un-used rubber on my back tyre :(

I do'nt got chicken strips on my bike...
I got buffalo wings.

Dont' be hating because I go fast as I can on the 250 going straight and slow down to 20/km on the ramps.

I still have very small ones, but at that point I am dragging the frame so the bike will never be able to use all the tire.
