Typical. Blather on incessantly about the right being racist while you voted for the woken racist because he's left and you can overlook that (he did say he's sorry. Sorry counts if you're a liberal). The hypocrisy is strong in this one.
Haha. Now they are calling for similar punishment for someone on the canadian version of the view. I know nothing about it, but damn. How dumb are you. You know someone just got &%&%-canned for saying something dumb and the next day, you don't think before you speak. The arguments are interesting. Half the people say not firing her will prove there is a double standard, half say it isn't termination worthy. My money is on her "leaving" the show to quell the uproar (deserved or not).
I doubt anything will happen to Jess Allen -- socialists are rarely held to the same standards as conservatives -- a politically incorrect comments made by Cherry is considered offensive, a similar comment by Allen is portrayed as defensive.
Strangely CSBC got more complaints about her than they did about Cherry, they also stopped receiving complaints about her however they didn't treat that story with the same hoopala.
CRTC doesn't handle content complaints -- it the responsibility of the CSBC (Canadian Standards Broadcast Council). They have a limit on the number of complaints they take before they close complaint taking on a broadcast,. The complaint limit was triggered three times this week:
1) Complaints about Cherry's comments on HNIC
2) Complaints about Sportsnet's reaction (Cherry's dismissal)
3) Complaints about Jess Allen on The Social(ists)
He publicly backstabbed Cherry. Isn't that enough for you? And the net doesn't go back far enough to prove the fiasco at CBC with Ken Hodge, when he criticized the Corpse publicly for cancelling programming for the NDP convention. Ron was right there to take the assignment, a junior chump same as he is today. Ron takes care of Ron. Everything he did this week proves that. Now he's looking for a cowardly way to weasel out of getting blame for selling out Cherry. He can wear it, and so can Sportsnet. And their advertisers are fooling themselves if they think they won't be touched by this too.
I can't agree more. A few years back CBC decided Ron't did add enough value and cut his role out of Coaches corner. Cherry forced CBC's hand and they put Ron back in the chair $600K contract. Had Cherry not done that, Mclean would have returned to his career as a Men's hockey ref in Calgary and part time Olympic broadcast host.
He didn't have the balls to comment on the show, he didn't have the spine to clarify his views on Cherry and the gaffe, instead read a Sportsnet prepared apology that furthers Sportnet's campaign to crush Cherry.

Have you ever watched The Social(ist)? It's one of those super low budget shows funded by the Canadian Content filler subsidies. The studio audience is 16 people on chairs - you couldn't fit a whole team into their studio. It doesn't have a big enough audience to have Neilsen ratings.
Man who claims he vandalized cenotaph says Don Cherry’s firing was motive
"A man who shares the same name as the suspect arrested for spray painting the Old City Hall Cenotaph wrote a lengthy Facebook manifesto citing the emergence of ‘cancel culture’ and the firing of Don Cherry as the motives behind the vandalism. "
“They (soldiers) did not die for us to become this type of mentally straight jacketed society, unable to speak freely or share ones view. You people, the perpetually offended hyper-sensitive adult children, are ruining our society. And that’s why I spray painted the Cenotaph.”
It's funny how Cherry wanted to change what he said to change what he meant. You don't say "come to the land of milk and honey" and then say what I meant by that is "everyone".
He meant the immigrants....not everyone. What he is saying is "I should have said everyone so that i wouldn't be in trouble". And he didn't apologize in the interview I saw. He doesn't think he did something wrong.
But i guess all of that is Trudeau's fault. I love the argument that this has anything to do with anyone but Don Cherry. It's Mclean's fault....it's Trudeau's fault. There's some lady on tv that said something stupid and she still has a job. Those arguments require that you agree that what Don did is wrong....but you somehow try to argue the opposite. Look at all the others who have done wrong....AND DC did nothing wrong. You cannot have it both ways.
Since when is "others" have done wrong so I shouldn't be punished for what I have done a valid argument?

Actually he was talking about players taking spots in the CHL, depriving Canadian players of development opportunities. This was a major issue in the early 90's so much so that the CHL and Hockey Canada implemented a specific import draft and a 2 man roster limits for non resident players. Some years they also further restrict goalies.

No, they don't. Only Canada allows non-resident Jr age players into their national development systems. Anyhow, it's a bit irrelevant as the CHL is universally regarded as the best Jr development system. If a Canadian kid isn't draftworthy, there's near zero chance he is a going to play professionally no matter where he trains.
