Cherahola VS 28 south

Last year after riding the Gap we stuck on 28 and rode it all the way to Georgia. Did I really miss out big time by not riding the Cherahola?

I'm planning this years trip and I'm wondering if it's a "must ride" that needs to be taken in this year or is it like most of the roads in that area - spectacular compared south western Ont.
 
It's a nice road to ride - If you are doing that one then make sure you take the 68 south at the end of the Cherahola.

IMHO you missed out, and I've ridden 28 down to Georgia too. The Cherahola is 55 miles of 25-35 mph sweepers with a 5000ft elevation change. We stay at a place at the base of the Cherahola on the NC side and I do beer runs over it when in need.


I got a friend to shoot this a few years back, it's NC143 shot from the Treetops resorts back towards Robinsville to the Sunoco gas station they put in a few years ago. This is the road you'd ride to get to the Cherohala, I though it was funny how the ride to the gas station was better than anything with in a few hours of my house back here in Niagara.

Anyway here's the vid, just remember you'd be riding it going the other way.

Cherohala is one my favourite all time roads - hands down. It's so easy to get into a nice rhythm and the views are great too. #68 was a really nice surprise to get into Georgia. Highly recommend that route!

If you make it into Georgia, check out "blood mountain" AKA wolf pen gap. Very technical much like Deals gap.
 
It's funny how just about every good road has been nicknamed in a "dragon" like attempt to draw tourists.
 
Love the Cherrycola. But its no longer glass smooth. :(

If you go north on the dragon and then over to Vonore, you can hook up at the far end of the Cherohala (Tellico Plains) and ride it back to Robbinsville. A nice big circle route, easily done in a morning's ride.
