Cheapest truck/van rental?

CAA is your friend. One year membership will probably be cheaper than the rental.

Would a CAA membership cover this? Technically the bike is not broken down or anything.

Very interested in knowing cause I have a membership and may need to transport a bike (~80km) from a shop in case I get it back just in time for frozen/snowy streets.

Yes they do I know many people who have done this though not my self. Also I have had my GF tow her car even though it wasn't broken but that was within town so I am not sure if they would try to ask too many questions if it was a longer haul.

I'm renting a cargo van from the Enterprise in Etobicoke (Kipling/QEW) on Friday for $80 - 24hr rental, all in (free km's too).

Usually they dont check to see if its actually broken down or not. If youre worried, pull a fuse and tell em it wont start. Remember, the guy towing your bike is getting paid by CAA. Chances are he just wants to get paid.

Home Depot? Buy one 2x4 and rent a truck for a few hours....dunno if it's cheaper. Guess if it's just a 1h trip it would be.

Well, he said it was 250 kilometers round trip. Allowing 20 minutes for loading and unloading, you leave 40 minutes for travel. Let's see ... that is 375 kilometers per hour, average speed. Allowing for traffic, I think you better expect to reach about 500 kph top speed. If Home Depot rents trucks that will do that, I don't wanna know!

Just hoping in at the end here, didn't read through all the previous suggestions, but, a U-Haul trailer's the way to go. $20 per day, who cares about kilometers!

i rent 10 year old vans for $170 a week when i need em. insurance and unlimited kms are included. its what i used to pick up my bike from Indiana. I think they have a green safari van not being used last time i was there.

Where.

About 2 years ago I asked Discount rental about going into the U.S. with one of their vans and they said not possible due to insurance. Maybe he was smoking something at the time.
