Cheap leather suits any good?

Hey, I saw a 2 piece leather suit (some no-name brand) at a local shop, $200. Had pucks, armour, seemed decent but I don't know much (I'm pretty new to be honest). Fit was pretty good.

Stay away or possibly a good deal?

How thick was the leather?

Not sure... didn't seem abnormally light or anything.

I have an Icon Overlord leather jacket (apparently 1.2-1.4mm thick). Maybe lighter than that jacket, but I didn't really think about it to be honest.

why would you want to be wearing cheap gear knowing that if/when you go down, you have cheap gear on?

I think more info is required to determine if the suit is indeed cheap or inexpensive, people mix these words up all the time but they mean very different things. Lastly as a few other posters have mentioned are you really willing to sacrifice your safety for a couple hundred bucks? Only you know the answer to that question...

If the leather is thick and high quality it should be fine. You will pay more for better comfort, however.

My Leather Links suit was about $400. Still in good shape. Leather is thick and has held up very well to at least one fall (no noticeable wear on the suit). Only probably is the liner isn't the greatest and the fit is far too tight in the shoulders.

Go see Fawaz at Racer5/Speedworx. He has inexpensive full suits that have a proven record of abuse from crashes that stand up.

^ I think that's solid advice, though I'm not sure of the pricing on his suits, I think he's a stand up guy.

OP, If you insist on that suit, I would have a closer look at the leather, the age, the stitching, etc...
Me personally, I'd rather spend a few $ more and get something that puts my mind at ease.

I speak from experience when i say "you get what you pay for".

I crash tested my suit, and it held up great. Cant say the same for these so called suits that are 2-300 dollars.

Talk to Fawaz at Racer 5 or even Jimmy at Velocity.

I've seen riders with these kinds of suits totally blow them out at the seams causing nasty rash and injury. And while not going fast at all. Would suggest only going with recommended brands. Personally I'd only ever change to another Dainese.
