I just found out that this GPS has an earphone connector! ;)

What happened with this thread, did everyone just suddenly lost interest or are too busy riding and listening to Susan :) ?

I like iGo8 and everything but it is not as easy to use as my actual Garmin GPS, for some reason it doesn't have West 1st street in Hamilton on there. Also it lacks a search function like the one garmin has where you can search the name of stores, instead you have to select from their crappy list of stuff.

Anyone know where I can find the CE version of garmin software? And will it e launchable the same way iGo8 is? Any add-ons to enhance igo's functionality? Really love the TTS stuff and the way it shows green billboards on the highway. Also the British chick sounds way less robotic than susan.

It would appear that yours did not come with the little booklet. In there it tells you about the sylus and earphone jack.....

I beg to differ. I have extensive experience with Garmin units and their software and in my opinion they don't come even close.

for some reason it doesn't have West 1st street in Hamilton on there.

I might complain about a street here or a detour there if I was paying $100+ per year for maps. iGO maps are not perfect, but for the price I can easily consider them perfect.

It doesn't. There is a "Search" button at the bottom. You can click it and start typing the name of the business right away without going through the POI categories at all. BTW, the name typing is predictive, so it gives you only letters that would work in your search, another very useful feature Garmin does not have (at least my, six times more expensive, E-Trex Vista HcX). Check the iGO manual for other details.

Links have been posted here, but I haven't tried it nor uploaded to the FTP. You should be able to launch it just like any other Windows CE application, from the start menu or some other menu system (BBmenu, Mio Pocket...).

Add-ons for iGO are so numerous and diverse that it's hard to list them all, let alone collect them. Pois, maps, dems, skins, TTS voices, languages, etc. are all over, let us know if you find something new and interesting.

Vlad,

Would you know how to set up a route from say LA to TO. I would like to test out the lane assist function. Thanks.

It's simple. Just search for any address you want and set it as destination. After the GPS calculates the route, go back to the menu/Route and click "Simulate". As far as I tested, simulation is complete and it will give you all the prompts and screens just like it would if you were actually driving/riding the route.

Long time lurker but decided to finally sign up based on this thread.

Can somebody advise what I'm doing wrong.

I extracted Vlad's IGO-complete ( thank you very much VLAD for hosting btw ) and I've also chosen to use BBMENU instead of MIO.

I've changed the GPS device to point to \sdmmc\igo\igo.exe ( there is no igo8.exe that I can see in Vlad's files ) I also moved the IGO files into this directory.

I've also changed the tomtom button and icon to point back to the SYGIC map so I can use that as back up.

Results: The unit loads up with old CURTIS menu, I press on navigation and it brings up BBEMENU, all good, all the other functions on BBMENU seems fine even if I don't know what some of them are for. Even the tomtom icon change and re-direct back to SYGIC works.

Problem: The only thing that doesn't appear to work is IGO8 ! It loads a fancy blue, splash screen, then immediately nothing. It goes back to the main BBMENU.

What am I doing wrong or is a particular file out of place ?

Thanks.

sorry maybe Vlad can chime in on that one, I haven't downloaded anything from their yet.

And great news,

Looks like the symptoms with red light camera file. Try to delete \iGO8\content\speedcam folder contents.

Someone is abusing the privilege of FTP access so I have no choice but to restrict it to everyone until further notice.

Good, I want that Superman ASAP :)

I forgot to mention I tried that already. Same nice intro screen loads and within a second it goes back to BBMENU.

Am I correct to assume all the IGO stuff, Tomtom, Garmin, etc, has to be in its own directory and only the bbmenu stuff is extracted and placed in the root ? Is there an actual igo8.exe because I can only find a igo.exe file ?

thanks

Not necessarily. I like to keep everything organized, but other people may as well choose to keep it in a mess. It should work either way, but good luck trying to untangle the mess if a need arises.

There should be only one .exe file in your \iGO folder (or whatever you decide to name it), and that is the one you should run.

Before I try an re-install, does the files branding.zip and data.zip from IGO have to be unzipped or leave as it is ?

Thanks

EDIT: Just reinstalled Canada only and it seems to work now, will try and add the US maps later on. If only I could get the SUSAN to call me BATMAN.

There are no nested archives ("zips within a zip") that need to be unpacked additionally. In other words, just unzip what you downloaded and use it as is.

Additional maps are easy to add. Let me know if you get Susan to call you STUD, I might be interested in that tweak :)
